English

Subject field(s)
  • Radio Transmission and Reception
  • Telecommunications Facilities
DEF

A resonant cavity, at the end of a waveguide, that feeds radio-frequency energy to the reflector of the antenna assembly of some airborne antennas.

Record 3 2008-05-30

English

Subject field(s)
  • Waveguides
  • Radio Waves
DEF

A gas-filled waveguide cavity which acts as a short circuit when ionized but is transparent to low power energy when unionized. It is used in a TR switch for protecting the receiver from the high power of the transmitter but is transparent to low power signals received from the antenna.

Key term(s)
  • transmit receive cell

French

Domaine(s)
  • Guides d'ondes
  • Ondes radioélectriques
DEF

Record 4 2002-11-18

English

Subject field(s)
  • Lasers and Masers
  • Spacecraft
CONT

The principle of operation for the active hydrogen maser is based upon a 5 MHz quartz crystal oscillator, phase locked to the hyperfine transition of the hydrogen atom. The atomic hydrogen signal generated within the physics package is then picked up by an antenna in the cavity and coupled to the synchronization unit, which synchronizes the 5 MHz crystal oscillator signal phase to the hydrogen signal phase producing the 5 MHz and 100 MHz spectrally pure sine-wave signal output.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Masers et lasers
  • Engins spatiaux
CONT
