Abnormalities in numbers of CD4+ and CD8+ T-cell subsets and the helper/suppressor ratio(CD4/CD8) were used very early in the AIDS epidemic to help define persons affected with AIDS before a screening test for HIV-1 was available. A low number of CD4+ lymphocytes alone or in combination with a decreased CD4 :CD8 ratio and total lymphocyte count can be useful as a predictor of HIV-1 seropositivity and progression of disease. 1, record 1, English, - helper%2Fsuppressor%20ratio

1, record 1, French, - rapport%20CD4%2FCD8

Recent studies have shown that the CD4 molecule does indeed have a weak affinity for MHC class II molecules. These observations support the idea that antigen recognition by T cells involves the formation of a complex of T cell antigen receptor and CD4 or CD8 on the T cell which recognizes antigen plus MHC on another cell. 1, record 3, English, - CD4%20molecule

1, record 3, French, - mol%C3%A9cule%20CD4
