Auditory feedback is the relative loudness level at which telephone users are able to hear their voice. With conventional wired telephones, an audio signal is fed back to the user's own earpiece so they can hear their voice at a predetermined loudness level. This audio signal is sometimes called sidetone. Persons speaking on the phone naturally will tend to adjust the loudness level of their voice to produce a comfortable level of audio in the earpiece. In contrast, wireless mobile cellular telephones do not generally provide feedback of a user's own voice in the receiver. Consequently, they tend to speak at relatively loud levels that are sometimes annoying to those around them. 1, record 1, English, - auditory%20feedback

3, record 16, French, - terminom%C3%A9trie

A highly efficient urban-transportation system proposed by Nobel laureate Arno Penzias at Bell Laboratories, that would dispense with buses, subways and private cars. In his vision a fleet or passenger vans, each equipped with a global-positioning system and cellular phone(plus whatever amenities its operator chose to offer)-all linked by computer to a central dispatching program, would provide total customized coverage of every street and every neighborhood in town, 24 hours a day. Through the computer and the cell phones, drivers would receive destination instructions; using GPS, dispatchers would keep tabs on the real-time progress of each vehicle. Passengers would call up the service, be met with minimum delay transfer only if necessary and relax while professional drivers took them to their desired destination. 1, record 25, English, - passenger%20vans%20fleet
