Nanocatalysis is one of the most exciting subfields to have emerged from nanoscience. Its central aim is the control of chemical reactions by changing the size, dimensionality, chemical composition and morphology of the reaction center and by changing the kinetics using nanopatterning of the reaction centers. This approach opens up new avenues for atom-by-atom design of nanocatalysts with distinct and tunable chemical activity, specificity, and selectivity. 2, record 1, English, - nanocatalysis

2, record 1, French, - nanocatalyse

Method based on the covalent attachment of enzymes to water insoluble matrices. It is the most widespread and one of the most investigated approaches to enzyme immobilisation. The selection of conditions for immobilization is more difficult than in the cases of the other carrier binding methods described, and frequently involves more complicated and less mild conditions than the other methods, but, since covalent bonds are being formed, stable immobilized enzyme preparations which do not leach enzyme into solution in the presence of substrate or high ionic concentration solutions are formed in almost all cases. The immobilization of an enzyme by covalent attachment to a support matrix must involve only functional groups of the enzyme that are not essential for catalytic action, and therefore no reagents must be used which could affect the binding and active sites of the enzyme. 2, record 5, English, - covalent%20binding
Record number: 5, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The reaction conditions required for covalent binding are relatively complicated and not particularly mild. Therefore, in some cases, covalent binding alters the conformational structure and active center of the enzyme, resulting in major loss of activity and/or changes of substrate specificity. 3, record 5, English, - covalent%20binding

In recent years studies of enzyme conformational changes have become highly sophisticated. By a variety of physical techniques they have revealed the great complexity of response of enzymes to small molecules.... One method uses ultrasonics to study the pH induced conformational transition in the active centers of the enzymes. The method utilizes the observation that ultrasonic cavitation produces hydroxyl and hydroperoxyl free radicals in water solution. Penetration of these radicals into the enzyme active center results in enzyme inactivation due to destruction of certain functional groups important for the catalytic activity, typically tryptophan residues.... Thus, a kinetic study of the enzyme ultrasonic inactivation allows us to determine the parameters associated with the conformational changes in the enzyme active center. 2, record 6, English, - conformational%20transition

1, record 6, French, - changement%20de%20conformation

The window can view 39. 5 degrees forward along the axis of the Station, 32. 2 degrees aft, and a total of 79. 1 degrees from port to starboard. The window is constructed of four panes. The outermost pane, made of fused silica, is designed to withstand orbital debris and can be changed out by extravehicular activity(EVA) if it becomes damaged. The two center panes, also made of fused silica, are the primary and redundant pressure panes. The interior pane, made of glass laminate, is called the scratch or "kick" pane. Some enzymes depend for activity only on their structure as proteins, while others also require one or more nonprotein components, called cofactors. The cofactor may be a metal ion.... In such enzymes the metal ion may serve as(1) the primary catalytic center;(2) a bridging group, to bind substrate and enzyme together through formation of a coordination complex; or(3) an agent stabilizing the conformation of the enzyme protein in its catalytically active form. Enzymes requiring metal ions are sometimes called metalloenzymes. 4, record 15, English, - metal%20ion

The Simplified Aid For EVA Rescue(SAFER) is a propulsive crew self-rescue device, worn by astronauts when conducting an extravehicular activity(EVA, or space walk) on the International Space Station(ISS) or while the Space Shuttle is docked to the Russian Mir space station. SAFER is a "mini-jetpack" that attaches to the backpack of the space suit. If an EVA astronaut accidentally becomes untethered and drifts away, he can activate SAFER and fly back to the space craft. SAFER was designed and developed by a team of engineers and EVA experts at NASA-Johnson Space Center. 5, record 16, English, - simplified%20aid%20for%20EVA%20rescue

1, record 26, English, - ultrasonic%20cavitation
