Physicians at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center(UPMC) are evaluating the use of LBS-Neurons in the world's first clinical human neuron transplant into a patient's brain. This is the first effort to treat stroke patients with an intracerebral graft of cells. These neurons are provided by Layton Science, Inc., located in Atherton, Cal. Specifically, the Pitt research team expects the LBS-neurons to improve the function of neurons damaged after a stroke. Based on previous studies with an animal model of stroke, researchers think that grafted LBS-Neurons will either enhance the function of host neurons that survive a stroke but are impaired, or replace host neurons that have been destroyed by a stroke.  1, record 1, English, - intracerebral%20graft

Efforts were undertaken by NAVAIR to make a new, porous, non-metallic, single-base ingredient bearing retainer material available to the bearing industry. The successful results of this effort... belong to the Naval Weapons Support Center, its contractor Singer-Kearfott, Little Falls, NJ, and their subcontractor, Dixon Corporation, Bristol, RI. The new material is a porous polyimide called Meldin 9000. The material was first developed by Dynatech Corporation in conjunction with a Charles Stark Draper Laboratory gyro improvement program sponsored by the Air Force. ASTER(Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer) is an imaging instrument that is flying on Terra, a satellite launched in December 1999 as part of NASA's Earth Observing System(EOS). ASTER is a cooperative effort between NASA and Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry(METI) and the Earth Remote Sensing Data Analysis Center(ERSDAC). ASTER will be used to obtain detailed maps of land surface temperature, emissivity, reflectance and elevation. The Next Generation Weather Radar system(NEXRAD) comprises approximately 160 Weather Surveillance Radar-1988 Doppler(WSR-88D) sites throughout the United States and selected overseas locations. This system is a joint effort of the United States Departments of Commerce(DOC), Defense(DOD), and Transportation(DOT). The controlling agencies are the National Weather Service(NWS), Air Weather Service(AWS) and Federal Aviation Administration(FAA), respectively. Level II data are the three meteorological base data quantities : reflectivity, mean radial velocity, and spectrum width. From these quantities, computer processing generates numerous meteorological analysis products known as Level III data. Level II data are recorded at all NWS and most AWS and FAA WSR-88D sites. Level III products are recorded at the 120 NWS sites.
