CENTER GAP [9 records]

English

Subject field(s)
  • Home Furniture
  • Woodworking
CONT

A river table is composed of two pieces of live edge wood, filled in their center with epoxy or resin. Whereas live edge tables often have the natural wood edge facing outwards, river tables tend to turn the live edge inwards, so as to mimic the natural contours of a river. Because of the wood's natural curves and the endless unique ways to fill the wood gap and create the "river" appearance, river tables are one of a kind...

CONT

Truss uplift occurs in the winter only. It occurs because the bottom chord of the truss arches up. The ends of the bottom chord rest on the outside wall, but the center portion rises. This usually creates a gap between the top of interior partitions near the center of the house and the ceiling.

CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Analytical Chemistry
  • Atomic Physics
  • Radiation Protection
CONT

Modifications of the luminescent process occur with the addition of lattice defects and/or chemical impurities into luminescent material. In some cases an impurity embedded within the crystal lattice forms a transition pathway through which an excited electron can make a radiative energy band gap transition. In so doing, the radiative transition which takes place at the site of the lattice impurity has spectral properties associated with the atomic transition properties of the impurity and such an impurity is termed an activator or luminescent center.

OBS

activator: term standardized by ISO in 1997.

CONT

OBS

activateur : terme normalisé par l'ISO en 1997.

CONT

TPP has received applications from CBS and HQ (Héma-Québec) to begin genomic amplification testing/nucleic acid testing (GAT)/NAT).

CONT

Nucleic acid testing, called NAT by blood banks, promises to close that gap. It could virtually eliminate the few cases of HIV that taint blood every year, said Dr. Celso Bianco of the New York Blood Center. And experts predict it will prevent an estimated 84 annual cases of hepatitis C transmission through blood, the vast majority. The government hasn’t mandated NAT-tested blood yet because technically it's still experimental. Genetic fingerprinting is commonplace in laboratories, where it's called PCR, for polymerase chain reaction testing. But how to test the entire blood supply raises questions, and blood banks are using different strategies to implement the new technology.

A Project by the International Development Research Center(IDRC). "Quick access to medical information is essential for quality patient care, medical research, and monitoring health trends. But in many parts of the developing world, obtaining information has been difficult, if not impossible, due to poor communications infrastructure, economic conditions, or disasters. This information gap has been reduced thanks to a reliable, inexpensive health information system called HealthNet. Today HealthNet provides health-care professionals even in remote areas of the South with medical information that was previously unattainable. The network is active in more than 30 developing nations(including 22 African countries), with more countries scheduled to join in the near future. Partly funded by IDRC, HealthNet uses radio-and telephone-based computer networks and a low-earth-orbit satellite to transfer medical information from one part of the world to developing countries and vice versa.

OBS

The Payload Carriers Team is responsible for MSFC' s [Marshall Space Flight Center] Payload Carriers which is made up of two type of carriers : the Spacelab Logistics Pallet(SLP) and the Multi-Purpose Equipment Support Structure(MPESS). The Payload Carriers "bridge the gap" in payload accommodations available in the Space Shuttle's Payload Bay by providing unique structural, power, data and thermal resources to a variety of payloads. These carriers are designed to transport items safely through the rigors of high acceleration Shuttle launch and the vacuum of space while providing the flexibility to allow the Shuttle to minimize the mass transported to earth orbit.

When the two half arches were complete there remained a gap of a few centimeters to be closed... by letting the retaining cables out gradually until the two halves met, a 20-cm.-diameter pointed steel peg or spigot fitting in a hole to center the girders accurately for bolting together. The method of letting down the immensely heavy bridge halves gradually is a simple process known as fleeting.
