A plancha is a common flat-top griddle used in Spanish cooking that combines high-temperature searing with a small amount of smoking.... Like the griddles used in fast food joints to sear hamburger patties, the plancha is heated to a scorching temperature of around 350 °C(or 662 °F). Unlike a griddle, the highest heat is concentrated at the center of the metal plate, allowing for different ingredients to be shifted easily without adjusting the intensity of the heat source, while being cooked simultaneously.

The Space Shuttle stops within 50 meters of Mir, which is approximately one-half the length of a football field. From that position the Space Shuttle waits for clearance from Mission Control to continue. When the command is given to continue, the Reaction Control System is activated again and the Space Shuttle closes in on Mir at a speed of about 0. 05 meters per second until it reaches a distance of about 9 meters. There, the Space Shuttle stops again and waits for approximately 5 minutes. The Commander and Pilot make sure they can see the docking target clearly and fine-tune the alignment of the Space Shuttle with the docking target. A large black cross called the Stand-off Cross is mounted 30 centimeters(cm) above the back plate in the center of the target. When the Commander has the Stand-off Cross squarely in line with the docking target, he or she maneuvers the Space Shuttle and makes contact with the docking ring. Once a series of hooks is engaged, the Space Shuttle is then successfully docked with Mir.

The GDS [Gas Delivery System] is a 4-PU passive drawer. There are no rack data or power connections. The drawer will contain a Dapco-sealed Minicel foam block wrapped in beta cloth capable of storing up to five bottles of calibration and/or respiratory gas mixtures. The drawer includes 2 Lexan plates that will be attached to the internal surface of the drawer side panels. The Lexan plates will center the foam block in the drawer and have grooves that allow the bottle retention plate(guillotine) to slide in perpendicular to the Lexan plates in 2 locations. The guillotine is placed in front of the bottles for launch and landing and placed behind the bottles for operation.

The gating system is very similar to that of a three-plate mold except that the runners are very thick, at least 1 3/4in.(45mm) in diameter. There is no runner plate, and the backup plate and A plate are held together by latches. After the material is injected, the outside of the runner freezes but insulates the center, permitting the core to remain fluid at molding temperatures and act as a hot runner.
