A commercial term referring to a chemical compound comprising mixed isomers, having the formula C10H21Cl, appearing under the form of a combustible, colorless liquid, used as a solvent for oils, fats, greases, resins, gums, in extractants and cleaning compounds, as an intermediate for insecticides, pharmaceuticals, plasticizers, polysulfide rubbers, resins and cationic surfactants.

The decyl "chain" as shown in formulas 5 through 9 is termed a "straight chain", as one carbon follows another, like the links of a chain. Structures 15 or 16 are termed "branched chains". [An illustration of the formulas follows. ] The overall formula for 5-7, C10H21Cl, is the same. Formulas 5-7 each represents "decyl chloride. "However 15 and 16 differ in a crucial way. The difference is that formulas 15 and 16 have two "CH3" groups near the left end of the molecule. This is seen more easily in 17, a "condensed formula" that is equivalent to the "line formula" 15. Furthermore, 15 to 17 have a single "CH" group present, whereas 7 has no "CH" groups, only "CH3" and "CH2" groups. The new structure 15 or 17 carries a different name :"isodecyl chloride. "

A tie rail(sometimes called a head rail) is the pipe used as the attachment for the tie chain. It controls the forward location of a cow while standing in the stall and often acts as the water line. Proper location of the tie rail lets a cow stand straight(parallel to the dividers) with all four feet in the stall and rise or lie without contacting it.

Finally, low tie rails were found to be associated with an increase in the number of cows with neck lesions, due to repeated contact with the tie rail.

Chain dimensioning also known as point-to-point dimensioning, is a method of dimensioning from one feature to the next. Each dimension is dependent upon the previous dimension or dimensions. This is a common practice, although caution should be used as the tolerance of each dimension builds on the next, which is known as tolerance buildup, or stacking.

Two plans of dimensioning are used on mechanical drawings.... One is called point-to-point or chain dimensioning; each length is dimensioned from the end of the preceding one. These dimensions are usually taken directly from the designer's sketch; however tolerances are cumulative and, rather than averaging out, usually add or subtract so that intermediate clearances may be disturbed. In the other plan, called datum dimensioning..., all dimension lines in each direction extend from a datum or reference line or plane which is usually the first machined surface.

The Rosette Chain is a decorative line stitch, based on the Twisted Chain. Its texture is good for edging curved geometrical shapes such as a circle, or for outlining small flower shapes. It is attractive in white thread on a colored background and is useful for decorative purposes on objects that do not have to be laundered.(The Stitches of Creative Embroidery, J. Enthoven, 1964, p. 142).
