Subject field(s)
  • Prepared Dishes (Cooking)
OBS

A Swiss traveling in China ate a dish called Chrysanthemum which was dunk-cooked in a pot of bouillon. Fondues based on this became popular when he returned to Switzerland. The diner dips rolled shaved meat(traditionally beef) into a simmering broth. As with a bourguignonne, dipping sauces are served. This dish is still somewhat like a Chinese hot pot(huoguo in Chinese, or steamboat, which is popular across Asia). At meal' s end the much flavoured broth may be served to the participants, with or without sherry wine.

Subject field(s)

DEF

A plant which requires light for a shorter period than it would normally receive from daylight in order to induce flowering; e. g Chrysanthemum and Poinsettia.

CONT

Other plants, however, use photoperiodism to time the flowering response. These plants fall into two major groups that are traditionally designated as long-day and short-day plants.

CONT

Short-day plants, such as many chrysanthemums, typically time their flowering for fall or winter when the nights are progressively lengthening.

DEF

Shade houses may either be large walk-in structures(or) low covered frames. Although shading is commonly used to reduce temperature, it is also used to protect such shade-loving plants as chrysanthemum, hydrangea, azalea, and various foliage plants from leaf damage caused by high light intensity. This is accomplished through the use of such materials as lath or screening. In addition, various types of "shading cloth" are available that can be used to cut down light intensity by different amounts.

OBS

Since many shade houses use lath as a shading material, the term "lath house" (or "lathhouse") is sometimes used as a synonym for shade house.
