English

Subject field(s)
  • Petroleum Technology - Equipment
  • Petroleum Cracking
CONT

A [coke drum] is a type of pressure vessel that uses heat and pressure to refine complex hydrocarbons into lighter, more useful products, such as gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel. Coke drums are an integral part of coker units and serve as the final step in the cracking process. During the process, crude oil is fed into a coker, where it is first heated to cracking temperature in a furnace. It is then sent through a transfer line to the coke drum for final processing.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Steelmaking
CONT

Steel is manufactured by the chemical reduction of iron ore, using an integrated steel manufacturing process or a direct reduction process. In the conventional integrated steel manufacturing process, the iron from the blast furnace is converted to steel in a basic oxygen furnace (BOF). Steel can also be made in an electric arc furnace (EAF) from scrap steel and, in some cases, from direct reduced iron ... An emerging technology, direct steel manufacturing, produces steel directly from iron ore.

CONT

The initial step in the integrated mill process is to prepare coal for use in a blast furnace by converting it to coke.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Élaboration de l'acier
CONT
