A pole with bucket for raising water used especially in Egypt. 4, record 2, English, - shaduf
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Shaduf : Primitive device used to lift water from a well or stream for irrigation purposes. Essentially the device consists of a long boom balanced across a horizontal support form 8 to 10 ft(2. 4 3 m) above the ground. The beam has a long, thin end and a short, stubby end. From the long end a bucket or similar container is suspended, and on the shorter end there is a counterweight. The operator pulls on a rope that lowers the long end of the boom so that the bucket submerges and is filled with water. He then releases the rope, allowing the counterweight to raise the bucket to the desired level, and then empties the bucket and repeats the process. 5, record 2, English, - shaduf
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 2 CONT
Shadufs can be used in a series where it is desired to raise water to a height exceeding the range of a single one. It has been suggested that the massive stones used in building the pyramids of Egypt were raised by an ancient variant of this device. 5, record 2, English, - shaduf

According to... the "Standard Proctor test"... a sample of soil is dried, pulverized and separated into two fractions by a no. 4 sieve. About 6 lb of the finer fraction are moistened with a small quantity of water and thoroughly mixed to produce a damp aggregate that is then packed, in three equal layers, into a cylindrical container of specified dimensions. Each layer is compacted by 25 blows of a standard tamper that is allowed to fall from a height of 1 ft. When the cylinder has been filled and struck off level at the top, the weight and the water content of the damp soil of the container are determined. By means of these quantities, the dry density can be computed. In a similar manner the dry density is determined for successively damper mixtures of the aggregate, until the dry density after compaction decreases conspicuously with increasing water content. A curve is plotted showing the relation between dry density and water content. 3, record 5, English, - standard%20Proctor%2Dtest

6, record 5, French, - Proctor%20normal

A chest tube is a tube inserted into the chest cavity for removal of air or fluid, or both; it is needed when the normally airtight pleural space has been penetrated through surgery or trauma, when a defect in the alveoli allows air to enter the intrapleural space, or when there is an accumulation of fluid, as from pleural effusion. Excessive air or fluid in the pleural space can cause collapse of the lung and the danger of mediastinal shift. 4, record 9, English, - chest%20tube
Record number: 9, Textual support number: 2 CONT
A chest tube or chest drain is a flexible plastic tube that is inserted through the side of the chest into the pleural space. It is used to remove air (pneumothorax) or fluid (pleural effusion, blood, chyle), or pus (empyema) from the intrathoracic space. 5, record 9, English, - chest%20tube
Record number: 9, Textual support number: 3 CONT
Chest drain is a conduit to remove air or fluid from the pleural cavity. The fluid can be blood, pus or a pleural effusion. Allows re-expansion of the underlying lung. Must prevent entry of air or drained fluid back into the chest. A chest drain must therefore have three components : An unobstructed chest drain ;A collecting container below chest level ;A one-way mechanism such as water seal or Heimlich valve. 6, record 9, English, - chest%20tube
Record number: 9, Textual support number: 4 CONT
Chest drains incorporate the use of a one-way valve to drain fluid or air from the pleural cavity. The valve prevents back-flow of air and fluid into the pleural cavity. They are indicated for use when collections of fluid or air are present in the pleural space, and by draining the collection they restore efficient gaseous exchange. 7, record 9, English, - chest%20tube

Level-sensing fillers fill containers to a controlled level without sealing the container... Such a filling technique eliminates product recirculation and allows filling to a level in plastic containers which would bulge out or flex inward if pressure or vacuum were applied to the sealed container. A level-sensing filler uses some type of sensing means, typically a flow of very low pressure air. Rising liquid level in the container blocks air flow, triggering a control system that shuts off product flow to the container. 2, record 17, English, - level%2Dsensing%20filling

Pressure gravity. This method fills to a level. It is almost universally restricted to filling carbonated beverages. The flow principle is gravity as the force causing flow into the container. Like the gravity vacuum method, which fills by gravity in a vacuum atmosphere, this method fills by gravity in a pressure atmosphere. Product under pressure is held in an integral overhead supply tank on the rotary. Filling valves are mounted in the tank and are opened against spring pressure by the container being lifted to the valve. When the container is sealed to the valve, a mechanical latch opens a charging valve at the top of the valve vent tube which is above the product level in the supply tank.... Fill level is determined when the rising liquid covers a part in the vent tube through which the air in the container is exhausted as product flows in. 3, record 21, English, - pressure%20gravity

A liquid filling technique by which containers are filled in a low vacuum atmosphere. 3, record 24, English, - gravity%20vacuum
Record number: 24, Textual support number: 1 OBS
It requires a seal on the container and fills the container(usually a bottle) to a predetermined level. The purpose of the low vacuum atmosphere is first to eliminate overflow and recirculation which are inherent in a pure vacuum filler, and to avoid filling a cracked or chipped-neck bottle. If a vacuum is not established in container, it will not fill; also prevents drip.... As in a gravity filler, level is established in the bottle when the vent port through which the air in the bottle escapes, is closed by the rising liquid. 1, record 24, English, - gravity%20vacuum

Technique de remplissage des récipients faisant usage d'une cuve maintenue en dépression. 2, record 24, French, - gravit%C3%A9%20vide
Record number: 24, Textual support number: 1 CONT
3, record 24, French, - gravit%C3%A9%20vide
