A metal cap for glass containers whose seal is effected by pressing over the container.

OBS

There are two main types of press-on caps : the first is a preformed cap which, when pressed over the container finish, effects its seal on the side and/or top of the container finish by means of a rubber or plastic sealing gasket. The second type effects its seal by means of paper or composition gasket liner pressed against the top of the glass finish.

Other types of press-on closures are snap-fit caps ... dispensing caps, which are often secondary closures; and overcaps.

OBS

Although the terms "closure" and "cap" may be seen as different when standing alone, we think they should be recognized as synonyms when properly qualified.

A cap-sealing method based on the high-frequency heating of the cap and its inner seal, when placed on their container, in order to enhance tamper evidence and freshness protection.

OBS

A typical induction innerseal consists of a pulp board liner, a layer of wax, aluminum foil, and a polymer that is compatible with the lid of the plastic container. As the container and cap pass under the induction coil, a varying magnetic field heats the aluminum foil, which melts the wax and polymer, sealing it to the lip of the container. Thus, the innerseal leaves an hermetic layer of foil and polymer coating on the top of the bottle. If the foil seal is broken, any tampering is immediately apparent to the consumer.
