Trawling questionnaire: This term commonly refers to interview forms designed to capture a wide range of exposures. They are sometimes called “hypothesis-generating” or ... shotgun questionnaires. These forms may be designed with embedded questions focused on disease-specific hypotheses, which may serve to consolidate the hypothesis generation and testing processes into a single step. For instance, the trawling questionnaire for an outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 may contain questions about standard transmission mechanisms for this agent such as hamburger consumption, day-care attendance, recreational pool use, animal exposures ... 1, record 2, English, - trawling%20questionnaire

The nurses asked those who had become ill a battery of questions from a 20-page survey known as a "shotgun" questionnaire that explores potential sources of disease, from animal contact to sources of drinking water to attendance at various locations that could be contaminated. The nurses went through what each person had eaten during the week before the illness struck to attempt to identify what caused the outbreak... The goal was to find a common element, whether it was a food item or some kind of contact or common location. "It's like shooting in a barrel hoping to hit something, "... But they did hit something.... 84% of those who were sickened had eaten a tomato... 4, record 2, English, - trawling%20questionnaire

As part of its mission to protect the health of American agriculture, the United States Department of Agriculture's(USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service(APHIS) works to prevent foreign animal diseases from entering the U. S. and harming [the] nation's livestock and poultry. One way that APHIS does this is to enforce the Swine Health Protection Act, which provides rules for feeding human food waste to pigs. Numerous outbreaks associated with viral contamination of fresh fruits and vegetables have been reported worldwide over the last decade. Fresh produce can become contaminated with viruses through contact with human sewage or infected workers during primary production, harvest, post-harvest handling, processing, packaging, and distribution. Unlike bacteria, human enteric viruses cannot multiply in food, as they need to enter living human cells to replicate. However, they can remain viable in fruits and vegetables for extended periods of time, and may cause illness if ingested. 2, record 7, English, - viral%20contamination

2, record 7, French, - contamination%20virale

Ochratoxin A(OTA) is a toxic metabolite formed by Aspergillus ochraceus, Penicillium verrucosum and other mould species. It is one of the most commonly occurring mycotoxins in improperly stored food. OTA has been found in corn, peanuts and decaying vegetation. It has also been found in mouldy cereals such as wheat, rye, barley, oats, and other commodities, including bread, flour, beans, peas, rice, and coffee and in samples of meat where the slaughtered animal may have consumed feed contaminated with OTA. 2, record 13, English, - ochratoxin%20A

Contaminated, the disinfectant-detergent residual looses its germ-killing effect. This type of product should not come in contact with food, be used around open(unprotected) food products, or be applied to food preparation surfaces. [...] A disinfectant-detergent solution is used to leave a germicide residual on a 100% clean surface. If a germicide is applied into soil, the germicide will be contaminated and rendered ineffective. Once a surface that has been properly treated with a germicide is touched by a human, animal, plant, or something "dirty", washing, rinsing, and treating must be performed again in order to reinstate the protection. If an unspoiled treatment sets on a surface longer than its residual time(6± hours), its germ-killing muscle ceases. e. g. An International Development Research Centre(IRDC) Project. The frugal use of expensive water trucked in from distant wells was a way of life in the parched desert village of Chungungo, Chile — located in one of the driest parts of the world. In addition to being costly, the water was often contaminated, contributing to poor sanitation, ill health, and low food production. Today, a simple technology collects water from fog, supplying villagers with two or three times more water than they once used and at a lower cost. What makes this possible is the persistent, extensive cloud cover(camanchacas) along the coast of Chile, which creates continual fog as the prevailing winds move inland across the mountains. 1, record 23, English, - Tapping%20Into%20Fog

1, record 23, French, - Capteurs%20de%20brouillard

Usually human cases are related to contaminated food, especially poultry, eggs, milk and their products. Persons who work with animals may become infected by the agent shed in animal feces. Human Salmonellosis may occur 6-72 hours after ingestion of the agent. Fever, muscle aches, headache and malaise are followed by abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. The diarrhea may resolve in 2-4 days but some people may continue to shed the bacteria with no signs of disease. Some types of Salmonella can cause septicemia which can result in a disease of longer duration and greater severity. 2, record 25, English, - human%20salmonellosis

After emergency monitoring of surface-deposited radioactivity defines the boundaries of contaminated areas, non-dairy food and drinking water within the boundaries should be sampled and analyzed. Laboratory tests on food samples may include strontium analyses or other chemical separations. Field monitoring instrumentation for water should be similar to that recommended for emergency milk monitoring, i. e. immersion counting or ion-exchange resin counting. 1, record 27, English, - milk%20monitoring

2, record 28, French, - enfoui%20%28%C3%A0%20la%20charrue%29
