The evolution of multicellularity required the suppression of cancer. If every cell has some chance of becoming cancerous, large, long-lived organisms should have an increased risk of developing cancer compared to small, short-lived organisms. The lack of correlation between body size and cancer risk is known as Peto's paradox. Animals with 1, 000 times more cells than humans do not exhibit an increased cancer risk, suggesting that natural mechanisms can suppress cancer 1, 000 times more effectively than is done in human cells. 1, record 1, English, - Peto%27s%20paradox

A range of values below and above the point estimate that has a given probability of including the true value of a given parameter, such as a treatment effect. 3, record 2, English, - confidence%20interval
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 OBS
The confidence interval is the area of uncertainty for the estimating of a parameter. The use of this interval reflects the fact that a study provides one estimate of a parameter, out of the many estimates that would be possible if the study were repeated several times. If an X% CI is constructed for each repetition, X% of the intervals will contain the true value of the parameter. Investigators typically use confidence intervals of 90%, 95% or 99%. Thus, a 95% confidence interval indicates that there is a 95% probability that the confidence interval calculated from a particular study includes the true value of the parameter. If the interval includes a null value(a difference in means of 0, an odds ratio or a relative risk of 1, or a correlation coefficient of 0, for example), the null hypothesis cannot be rejected. A narrow confidence interval around a point estimate indicates a more precise estimate than a wide confidence interval. 3, record 2, English, - confidence%20interval
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 2 OBS
The validity of the confidence interval depends upon knowledge of the underlying distribution of the population or assumptions about behavior of the sampling distribution. 4, record 2, English, - confidence%20interval

3, record 2, French, - intervalle%20de%20confiance
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 OBS
3, record 2, French, - intervalle%20de%20confiance

... there is a strong correlation between the yield on 91-day T-bills and bankers’ acceptances(BAs). This makes hedging one security with the other a viable strategy. The difference between these two yields is known as the basis. By hedging BAs with T-bill options one must assume the basis risk(that is, the spread between the two yields may move for or against any given position). 3, record 3, English, - basis%20risk

4, record 3, French, - risque%20de%20corr%C3%A9lation
