  • Statistical Methods
DEF

Technique based on the correlation of a series of tests or items administered to a sample of persons on a single occasion. It indicates the extent to which the tests covary over a series of persons under one condition.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Psychometry and Psychotechnology
DEF

A technique for obtaining an estimate of the reliability of a test by finding the correlation between the odd-and even-numbered items.

CONT

Chance-halves or split-halves correlation : There are various methods of choosing the halves to be as representative of the whole as possible; the most common is the ODD-EVEN METHOD, one half being composed of the even-numbered items, the other of the odd-numbered.

Subject field(s)
  • Analytical Chemistry
  • Atomic Physics
  • Electromagnetic Radiation
  • Radiological Physics (Theory and Application)
DEF

[A gamma spectrometry method used] to determine the isotopic composition of plutonium [or uranium] samples without external efficiency calibration.

OBS

Its major drawback arises from the fact that Pu-242 does not show useful gamma rays. This isotope abundance has therefore to be estimated using isotope correlation techniques. However, it is a non destructive technique which has proven its capability in field application as well as under laboratory conditions.

Key term(s)
  • multiple-group analysis

French

Domaine(s)
  • Chimie analytique
  • Physique atomique
  • Rayonnements électromagnétiques
  • Physique radiologique et applications
CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Radar, Radio Guidance and Goniometry
  • Remote Sensing
DEF

A technique that exploits the correlation between homologous points in a pair of radar images.

OBS

stereoradargrammetry: term officially approved by the RADARSAT-2 Terminology Approval Group (RTAG).

French

Domaine(s)
  • Radar, radioguidage et radiogoniométrie
  • Télédétection
DEF

CONT

In geophysics, vertical seismic profile is a technique of borehole seismic measurements used for correlation with surface seismic data.

CONT

New vertical seismic profiles from the northwest margin of the Sudbury impact structure provide details of structural geometries within the lower impact melt sheet ... and the sublayer norite layer.

OBS

vertical seismic profile: often capitalized.

PHR

Vertical seismic profile survey, data.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Recherches et prospections géologiques
CONT

Record 7 2004-09-09

English

Subject field(s)
  • Remote Sensing
CONT

In gas correlation spectroscopy, a cell containing the target gas is placed in front of the sensor. The scene is viewed twice, through the target gas cell and through an empty cell. The gas in the cell serves as a "matched filter" to the target gas in the plume. The "modulated" transmission of the system is very high at the spectral bands of the target gas while it practically blocks transmission at all other wavelengths. The system has a very high Etendue (throughput) and is simultaneously responsive to several spectral lines or bands -- increasing the overall sensitivity.

CONT

MOPITT will make measurements of infrared radiation originating from the surface of the planet and isolate the energy being radiated from CO and CH4 molecules by using a technique called gas correlation spectroscopy.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Télédétection
CONT

DEF

a technique for determining the reliability of a test by correlating the two halves of the test, usually the odd-numbered versus the even-numbered items. It is necessary to apply the Spearman-Brown prophecy formula to the coefficient of correlation in such cases in order to correct for the attenuation of the test caused by splitting it.
