  • Security Posters and Signs
  • Transport of Goods
CONT

In general not more than one danger label should be affixed to a package. However, since a substance or article may present more than one significant risk, e. g. fire and poisoning, the package should, in such cases, bear in addition to the label corresponding to the primary risk, such additional labels as indicate important subsidiary risks.... In general, subsidiary risk labels need not be applied to packages to denote subsidiary risks of a Packing Group III hazard level. In all instances in which subsidiary hazard labels are applied, only the label identifying the primary hazards of the goods should bear... the number of the class or division as appropriate....

OBS

Labels identifying risks. The labels ... are mainly intended for affixing on goods or packages. The labelling system is based on the classification of dangerous goods and was established with the following aims in mind: (a) to make dangerous goods easily recognizable from a distance by the general appearance (symbol, colour and shape) of the labels they bear: (b) to make the nature of the risks easy to identify by means of symbols. ... (c) to provide, by means of colours on the labels, a useful first guide for handling and stowing.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Affichage de sécurité
  • Transport de marchandises
CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Blasting Work (Mining)
DEF

The weight strength of an explosive is its percentage strength of blasting gelatine.

CONT

For instance, equivalent Weight Strengths(lb for lb) of ammonia gelatines and ammonia dynamites are given the same percentage ratings(gradings) as those corresponding to the NG content of a straight dynamite. A 50% ammonia dynamite has the same strength as a 50% straight dynamite even though it contains much less than 50% NG. Actually, it contains ammonium nitrate(AN) in addition.

OBS

NG stands for nitroglycerine.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Travail aux explosifs (Exploitation minière)
CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Telecommunications
DEF

A frequency-modulation detector circuit that uses two diodes and requires no limiter at its input; the audio output is determined by the ratio of two developed intermediate-frequency voltages whose relative amplitudes are a function of frequency.

CONT

A ratio detector... is a discriminator operating on the same principle as the Foster-Seely discriminator but less sensitive to amplitude modulation. The coupling circuit and the addition of the primary voltage to the center tap of the secondary may be identical to the corresponding portion of a Foster-Seely discriminator. However, in the ratio detector, the two diodes are connected so that their load voltages are additive rather than subtractive.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Télécommunications
CONT

CONT

Although WUSOR-II was tested with many students in informal experiments, the coach was mostly tuned with the help of a synthetic student, SYNDIE, whose knowledge was an overlay of the system's rules. The notion of a synthetic student presupposes a number of assumptions that limit its use as a general testbed(Ihrie, 1978). In particular, the overlay student learns by discrete steps corresponding to the addition of rules; this rather static style fails to reflect the gradual mastery of concepts by human students. Nevertheless, SYNDIE turned out to be quite useful in the preliminary debugging process, where it revealed many of the coach's inadequacies.
