The procedure is based on the principle that two digital radiographic images obtained under different time intervals, with the same projection geometry, are spatially and densitometrically aligned using specific software. When the two images are registered and intensities of corresponding pixels are subtracted of the gray scale values, a uniform difference image is produced, resulting in a new image representing the differences between the two, called the subtraction image. In this new image, if there is a change in the radiographic attenuation between the baseline and follow-up examination, all the anatomical structures that do not change between radiographs are shown as neutral gray background, while regions that had mineral loss or gain are shown as a darker or brighter area, respectively... 1, record 2, English, - digital%20subtraction%20radiography

SIAM is a technology that defies the current laws of imaging. It permits scientists to view images much smaller than the wavelength of light and approaching the atomic level, an achievement that has long been considered impossible according to the basic principles of classical optics. SIAM works by shining light through a thin sample onto an ultra-sharp, vibrating tip on the other side. The light scattering from the tip gets altered as the tip approaches within a nanometer from the sample surface, as it vibrates, due to the optical interaction with the local properties of the sample. An image is built up by recording the scattered light as the probe is scanned line by line. The scientists recorded the variations in the scattered light using a very sensitive device--an optical interferometer--which is capable of measuring modulations in light level corresponding to single photons. As the tip moved across the surface, these variations were mapped by a computer into a picture of the surface, showing features such as oil droplets and steps on mica that were only a few atoms in size. 3, record 6, English, - scanning%20interferometric%20apertureless%20microscope

1, record 6, French, - SIAM

Ottawa, Canadian Heritage. Generally, "Religious Objects" are used in a context of worship. They deal with a religious subject or have religious symbolism. Religious objects are also associated with members of the church community, for instance, religious orders, nuns or priests. Religious objects adorn places of worship and are used in devotions or in ceremonies. They may also be found outside the walls of a church, in a house or in a cemetery, or as in the case with the objects presented here, in a museum. The Religious Objects Database contains more than 300 records of objects with corresponding images. Through these objects and the relevant information which accompanies each, you will discover the richness of a cultural and religious heritage. The data are written in the language of each museum or institution responsible for the care of the objects and has not been translated. 1, record 10, English, - Religious%20Objects%20Database

A mask is a thin black and white negative made from a transparency. It has no density in areas corresponding to the densest areas of the transparency. The mask is sandwiched together with the transparency to reduce the overall contrast or density range of a transparency while printing. An unsharp mask also increases sharpness at light/dark edges in the print. The light/dark edges of an unsharp mask are fuzzy so there is a ramp transition from light to dark. The corresponding edges in the transparency are sharp. When you sandwich them together aligning the images, the fuzzy mask edge is ramping where the sharp transparency edge is stepping. 2, record 15, English, - unsharp%20mask
