Drying of gases : The removal of 95-100% of the water vapor in air or other gases is frequently necessary. Gases having a dew point of-40°F are considered commercially dry. The more important reasons for the removal of water vapor from air are :(1) comfort, as in air conditioning;(2) control of the humidity of manufacturing atmospheres;(3) protection of electrical equipment against corrosion, short circuits, and electrostatic discharges;(4) requirement of dry air for the use in chemical processes where moisture present in air adversely affects the economy of the process;(5) prevention of water absorption in pneumatic conveying; and(6) as a prerequisite to liquifaction.  3, record 4, English, - dry%20air

Réfrigération et congélation - Le taux maximal d'humidité que peut contenir un gaz décroît rapidement avec la température : pour l'air chargé de vapeur d'eau, par exemple, sa valeur à 30 °C n'est plus que le centième de celle qu'on observe à 20 °C; ceci découle immédiatement des variations correspondantes des tensions de vapeur. Le refroidissement d'une masse de gaz produit donc une dessiccation, une élimination des parties les plus condensables par dépôt sur les parois de l'appareil où s'effectue l'opération : c'est le piégeage à basse température. En général, le gaz à purifier circule sous pression ordinaire ou réduite autour d'une chemise baignée à l'extérieur par un liquide réfrigérant, sur laquelle se condense à l'état liquide ou solide à éliminer. Le condensat solide formé, sans inconvénient pour de faibles quantités, gêne cependant les transferts de chaleur accompagnant la condensation, lorsque son épaisseur est grande; il est alors nécessaire d'arrêter le fonctionnement de l'appareil et de procéder à un réchauffement temporaire, pour fondre le dépôt et l'éliminer par ruissellement vers la partie inférieure ou s'opère une vidange.  2, record 4, French, - air%20sec
