Mothballing is the process of stabilizing a facility so that no damage occurs to the facility should it make sense at a later time to incur the capital expenditures associated with continuing to operate, extending the life, or repowering the facility. Typically, a decision to mothball a facility might be made as a hedge against, or in anticipation of, changes in market conditions; i. e., increases in relative fuel prices, or an increase in the value of installed capacity.... Typical activities involved in mothballing a facility might include the following types of activities intended to preserve existing equipment :-’Racking Out’ or removal and storage of motor control center circuit breakers or 'switchgear’(this would also be done for a facility that has been retired and is scheduled for dismantling)-Placing a heat source or desiccants in the furnace to maintain a temperature above the dew point(at which condensation collects and corrodes the boiler structures.)-The application of grease or other coatings to reduce corrosion of components such as pumps and motors.-The installation of an air desiccant system to blow dry air through the steam turbine, condenser, boiler tubes and pipes. 2, record 1, English, - mothballing

For new tanks four options exist : fiberglass reinforced plastic(FRP) ;steel, if cathodically protected; a Steel-FRP composite; or metal with no corrosion protection of certain soil conditions exist. Lockheed researchers have delivered a surface cleaning grit-blasting system which uses solid CO2 pellets to remove corrosion, paint or dirt from metallic parts. The technique is known as "evasive abrasive" because the CO2 disintegrates and vapourises upon contact with the surface being cleaned. 1, record 24, English, - surface%20cleaning%20grit%2Dblasting%20system

1, record 24, French, - syst%C3%A8me%20de%20d%C3%A9capage%20par%20projection

In most metallic [solar collector] systems, especially those using a number of metals or a reactive metal such as aluminum, the heat transfer fluid can have a significant impact on corrosion. In aqueous solutions, the concentration of dissolved chemicals, heavy metal ions, and pH of the fluid must be controlled. Deionized or demineralized water has been used successfully but additional steps are usually taken. These include the use of a gettering column to trap heavy metal ions before they enter critical parts of the system and inhibitors which stabilize the metal ions and reduce their reaction with less noble metals. 1, record 33, English, - gettering%20column

Water Filling. The principle of water cooling structural elements is now well established.(...) Water inside a structural member exposed to a building fire will absorb heat and maintain steel temperatures below the critical level of approximately 550°C. The heat is dissipated by convection to other non-exposed areas of the system and by conversion of the water to steam which is vented.(...) In high-rise structures, columns may be divided into zone levels(...) in order to limit the hydrostatic pressure at the bottom of the zone. Water in the system is generally treated with potassium carbonate in quantities sufficient to prevent freezing during winter, and potassium nitrate to inhibit corrosion. 1, record 34, English, - water%20filling

1, record 34, French, - irrigation
