creep : The evolution over time of the plastic deformation of a material, under the effect of a mechanical stress, acting over an extended interval. The term thermal creep, as opposed to irradiation creep, refers to that component of creep that is due solely to the load applied, irrespective of any irradiation. 1, record 1, English, - thermal%20creep

1, record 1, French, - fluage%20thermique

The vacuum-drive heading indicator is the simplest of many types of gyro-controlled directional indicators designed to provide stable heading reference.... Errors. The chief cause of precession, causing the card to creep or drift, is bearing friction. Normal movement of the gimbal rings produces friction, which is increased if the bearings are worn, dirty, or improperly lubricated. Other sources of precession error include unbalanced gyro components and the effect of the earth's rotation. The latter effect depends upon the position of the instrument in relation to the earth, and is not appreciable unless a flight involves considerable change in latitude. 1, record 3, English, - unbalanced

Garde-cap. 3, record 3, French, - balourd%C3%A9

[drying creep] also provides a very good explanation of the size effect because, in thick pieces, drying is limited to the surface and conditions of basic creep are approached, with tensions and cracking of the surface. 1, record 4, English, - size%20effect

1, record 4, French, - effet%20d%27%C3%A9chelle

The basic creep is in principle determined as the difference between the strain of the loaded specimen coated with resin and that of the equivalent specimen with no load. With the uncoated specimen (preserved under a polyane film for 28 days, then exposed to a controlled atmosphere), the same calculation gives the "total" creep: the sum of the basic creep and of an additional strain conventionally called desiccation creep. 1, record 5, English, - desiccation%20creep

1, record 5, French, - fluage%20de%20dessiccation
