A presentence investigation report(PSI) is a legal term referring to the investigation into the history of person convicted of a crime before sentencing to determine if there are extenuating circumstances which should ameliorate the sentence or a history of criminal behavior to increase the harshness of the sentence.

Le rapport présentenciel est un document préparé à la demande du juge. Il contient des renseignements pertinents sur le contrevenant et sur les circonstances entourant l'infraction pour laquelle il a été reconnu coupable. Ce rapport permet au juge, avant de prononcer la sentence, d'obtenir un ensemble d'informations qui lui seront utiles pour déterminer la peine la plus appropriée au contrevenant. Le juge demande un rapport présentenciel seulement dans les cas où il estime qu'un tel rapport lui serait utile pour déterminer la peine.

Unlike these other gangs that engage in a wide variety of criminal offenses, crime in this type of group is narrowly focussed on a few offenses; the group comes to be characterized by the specialty. The Specialty gang tends to be small-usually fifty or fewer members-without any subgroups in most cases(there are exceptions). It probably has a history of less than ten years, but has developed a well-defined territory. Its territory may be either residential or based on the opportunities, for the particular form of crime in which it specializes.
