In 1983, the Ministry of the Solicitor General of Canada, along with the cooperation of the Canadians for Crime Prevention alliance, introduced National Crime Prevention Week. In Québec, events for the very first Crime Prevention Week were coordinated by the Association des services de réhabilitation sociale du Québec and the Société de criminologie du Québec. These two agencies continue to remain strongly committed to developing crime prevention initiatives and promote crime prevention through conferences and seminars. En 1983, le ministère du Solliciteur général du Canada instaurait, avec la collaboration de l'Alliance pour la prévention du crime (Canadians for Crime Prevention), la Semaine nationale de la prévention du crime. Au Québec, les activités étaient coordonnées par l'Association des services de réhabilitation sociale du Québec et la Société de criminologie du Québec. Ces deux organismes continuent de proposer des initiatives en prévention de la criminalité et d'en faire la promotion, entre autres, par des congrès et des colloques. Au fil des années, le Ministère a pris une part de plus en plus active dans l'organisation de la semaine annuelle consacrée à la prévention du crime.
