A new television standard that uses digital signals rather than the current analog standard.

CONT

HDTV signals contain over 700 lines of resolution compared to the 525 lines of resolution that analog provides. HDTV also has a wider width to height of the screen for a true theater-like experience. The images are digitized and compressed before signal transmission to enable the tremendous quantity of information to pass through easily. The signals are then decompressed when they reach the television. The result is a clear, crisp picture that transcends any other picture formats.

OBS

Distinguish from the lift pass, the same type of pass but longer. Also called a "flick pass", a "flick" being a shot made with a quick snap or roll of the wrist. The shortness of the pass has it called a "crisp pass".

Passe levée. La rondelle placée légèrement devant le joueur, celui-ci exécute un mouvement rapide des poignets vers le haut et vers l'avant, permettant à la lame du bâton de s'élever rapidement de la glace.

OBS

Il s'agit d'une courte passe qui s'élève juste assez pour passer par-dessus la lame d'un bâton ou le patin d'un adversaire; de ce fait, on la qualifie aussi de «nette». L'expression «passe sèche» fait allusion au passage dans les airs, «à sec» plutôt qu'à fleur de glace, et «passe chiquenaude» évoque la façon dont elle est exécutée, avec un tour rapide du poignet, rappelant le mouvement pour exécuter une chiquenaude.
