CRITICAL DENSITY [12 records]

Record 1 2023-10-17

English

Subject field(s)
  • Astrophysics and Cosmography
  • Space Physics
CONT

There is no known reason for the density of the Universe to be so close to the critical density, and this appears to be an unacceptably strange coincidence in the view of most astronomers. Hence the flatness "problem". Many attempts have been made to explain the flatness problem, and modern theories now include the idea of inflation which predicts the observed flatness of the Universe. However, not all scientists have accepted inflation, and the matter remains a subject of much debate and research.

Supercritical fluid technology is based on properties of compounds when they are placed under pressure and temperature conditions beyond their critical point. Supercritical fluids have a viscosity close to gases, a density close to liquids, and a high diffusivity. The state changes gaseous/supercritical and liquid/supercritical occur in a continuous way. Supercritical fluids have then a tunable solvent power : solubility of compounds in the fluid is correlated to pressure and temperature. Several supercritical fluids have been studied, including propane and water, but the most widely used is supercritical CO2.

PHR

Supercritical CO2, ethane, fluid, phase.

CONT

PHR

CO2, eau, éthane, fluide, état supercritique.

A critical mass of people in close proximity to daily services and activities is necessary for mutual support between local residents and local business. A modest neighborhood density assures goods and services are within walking distance of residents while at the same time guaranteeing business owners a local consumer market... to support local businesses, the average neighborhood density should be greater than five dwelling units per acre.
