Department of Human Resources Development Canada training program. Skills Shortages assists employers to meet their critical needs for qualified workers in designated occupational skills, particularly non-traditional occupations. Every effort is being made to increase the participation of women in these occupations. Since December 1991, this program has been grouped with the Skills Shortages as Workplace-Based Training under the Labour Market Adjustment Program components of the new Canadian Labour Force Development Strategy.

Programme de formation de Développement des ressources humaines Canada. Le programme Pénuries de main-d'œuvre aide les employeurs à combler leurs besoins essentiels de travailleurs possédant certaines compétences professionnelles bien précises. C'est dans les professions dites «non traditionnelles» que le programme aide principalement à trouver des travailleurs qualifiés. Tout est mis en œuvre pour accroître la participation des femmes dans ces professions. Depuis le mois de décembre 1991, ce programme a été fusionné avec le programme Acquisition de compétences et remplacé par une formation en milieu de travail offerte en vertu du Programme d'adaptation au marché du travail qui s'inscrit dans le cadre de la nouvelle Stratégie de mise en valeur de la main-d'œuvre.

Grey area occupations tend to be critical points in the present-day moves in industry to extend staff status to blue collar and related workers. Typical grey area occupations are works staff appointments closely involved with production processes in a clerical, inspection or supervisory role.
