World War I curtailed German and English toy production and spurred the Canadian industry. Crokinole boards, toy battleships and building blocks were added to the staple wooden toys.

Le mot n'a ce sens que dans les dictionnaires attestant de l'usage au début du XXe siècle ou avant. On dit maintenant «chiquenaude» ou «pichenette» que le coup soit donné sur le nez, la tête ou ailleurs ou sur un objet. On dirait donc aujourd'hui «planchette ou plateau de jeu de chiquenaudes ou de pichenettes».
