Remote sensing(RS) data acquired by satellite have wide scope for agricultural applications owing to their synoptic and repetitive coverage. Especially the spectral indices deduced from visible and near-infrared RS data have been extensively used for crop characterization, biomass estimation, crop condition monitoring, crop yield condition monitoring and crop yield monitoring and forecasting.

The Crop Averaging Pilot(CAP) Program groups the customer's insured crops, reducing the corporation's risk for insuring those crops. That reduced risk is returned to the enrolled producer as increased coverage.... Coverage CAP customers must select 80 % coverage at the base price. Coverage you receive above 80 % and up to 90 % is calculated based on risk factors applied to your seeding intentions-the crops and number of acres of each crop you plan to seed. You must endorse all crops you intend to seed. Although organic acres are eligible for CAP coverage, New Crops, forage, greenfeed and irrigated acres are not eligible.
