Field margins. The treatment of the strip of ground, or field margin, adjacent to the hedge, has important effects on the establishment of the hedge, and on its developing wildlife value. Avoid routine cultivation of this strip, but either mow it to form a grass sward, or preferably sow it with a mixture of wildflowers and grasses. This type of mix is less vigorous than commercial strains of grass, and will compete less with the hedge for nutrients, and will require less frequent cutting. Its value for invertebrates and other organisms will be much higher than a mown grass sward.... The width of the field margin will depend on the type of crop being grown, and on grants and other commercial factors. 2, record 4, English, - field%20margin

Conventional tillage incorporates or buries most of the crop residue into the soil. Typically this approach involves multiple passes in fields. The moldboard plow is often used first, followed by other implements. Since this method plows under much of the crop stubble, it leaves the surface relatively bare and without cover protection. 6, record 14, English, - conventional%20tillage

The sole purpose of a cover crop is to protect the bare, erosion-prone land from the wind. 2, record 27, French, - culture%20prot%C3%A9g%C3%A9e

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. The Manitoba Crop Diversification Centre(MCDC) is a three way partnership between an industry consortium, MHPEC(Manitoba Horticulture Productivity Enhancement Centre Inc.) and the governments of Canada and Manitoba. The primary goal of MCDC is the investigation and demonstration of economically and environmentally sustainable crop production. This includes crop diversification and intensive crop production technology practices such as irrigation, and facilitating development of value added processing of Manitoba grown crops. This is accomplished by bringing together partnerships with the appropriate expertise and the provision of suitable land and facilities. Much of the Centre's work is carried out in co-operation with outside agencies, groups and individuals. The Centre provides a variety of assistance for research and demonstration activities, including technical support and use of its facilities and land. 2, record 36, English, - Manitoba%20Crop%20Diversification%20Centre

Plants engineered to contain new pesticides pose risks. Transgenic pesticide-producing plants, particularly when they are grown at commercial scale and consumed in large quantities, present risks to both the environment and human health. The ecological risks include : i) that the pesticidal plant will become a weed or harm nontarget organisms; ii) that the flow of pesticidal genes to wild relatives will produce new weeds or alter centers of crop diversity; and iii) that new viruses may emerge. 3, record 37, English, - pesticidal%20plant

Intensive energy forestry is a form of highly mechanizable cultivation of genetically selected, fast-growing, coppicing woody plants grown with agricultural methods. The physical, chemical and biological conditions of the soil often need to be improved in order to ensure a reliable establishment and an intensive management, characterized by undisturbed physiological production processes and a better-than-normal development of the crop. After an optimal rotation length(3-10 years), the stand can be harvested in its dormant stage without damaging roots or stools. The ultimate goal is maximizing the sustained utilization of the site to highest profitability without causing any environmental hazard. 3, record 38, English, - energy%20forestry

1, record 39, French, - culture%20du%20tabac

Soybeans are a self-pollinated crop. They are grown as a full-season crop and yield generally decreases in earlier varieties. All but the earliest varieties also are sensitive to day length, flowering faster under short days. Therefore varieties are adapted over narrow bands of latitude and heat units. As a result, selection of adapted varieties is crucial and numerous varieties have been developed by both public and private plant breeding programs. Many of these varieties are of U. Le soja est une plante à pollinisation directe. A new and popular tomato product is a cluster of vine-ripened fruit still attached to the stems. These products are known as ’cluster tomatoes’, ’cluster-harvested tomatoes’, ’truss tomatoes’, or ’on-the-vine tomatoes’. The term ’truss tomatoes’ is frequently used in Europe, and ’cluster tomatoes’ is used in the United States. Cluster tomatoes are currently grown as a greenhouse crop throughout the world, although some limited trials are being conducted with outdoor production. 2, record 47, English, - vine%20tomato

The Board of Grain Supervisors was created by the Canadian government in 1917 to market all wheat grown in 1917 and 1918. Wheat futures trading was suspended and the federal government assumed complete control over the purchase and subsequent sale of wheat for export, including control over prices and destination of exports. When marketing of the 1918 wheat crop was completed, the Board's activities terminated. 1, record 48, English, - Board%20of%20Grain%20Supervisors

2, record 50, French, - rotation%20biennale
