CROP SEQUENCE [5 records]

Record 1 2025-04-23

English

Subject field(s)
  • Genetics
DEF

The manipulation of the genetic material of a living organism by deleting, replacing, or inserting a DNA sequence, typically with the aim of improving a crop or farmed animal, or correcting a genetic disorder.

Key term(s)
  • SUSTAGRIDUR2025

French

Domaine(s)
  • Génétique
CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Cropping Systems
  • Plant and Crop Production
OBS

The order of crops grown throughout one phase of a longer-term crop rotation.

OBS

crop sequence : designation extracted from the "Glossaire de l'agriculture" and reproduced with permission of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.

OBS

Record 3 2023-03-13

English

Subject field(s)
  • Cropping Systems
CONT

A cropping system refers to the type and sequence of crops grown and practices used for growing them. It encompasses all cropping sequences practiced over space and time based on the available technologies of crop production. Cropping systems have been traditionally structured to maximize crop yields.

Spanish

Campo(s) temático(s)
  • Sistemas de cultivo
CONT

Record 4 2021-10-15

English

Subject field(s)
  • Farming Techniques
  • Tillage Operations (Agriculture)
DEF

[The] primary and secondary tillage operations normally performed in preparing a seedbed and/or cultivating for a given crop grown in a given geographical area, usually resulting in < 30% cover of crop residues remaining on the surface after completion of the tillage sequence.

CONT

Conventional tillage incorporates or buries most of the crop residue into the soil. Typically this approach involves multiple passes in fields. The moldboard plow is often used first, followed by other implements. Since this method plows under much of the crop stubble, it leaves the surface relatively bare and without cover protection.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Techniques agricoles
  • Travaux du sol (Agriculture)
CONT

Integrated Pest Management.

OBS

It should be emphasized that the integration of herbicides into the crop protection program or system needs careful consideration. Main factors to be considered are the rotation sequence, the most common weed or complexes of weeds in the field, and their density and duration. Effort should be made in choosing and matching the particular herbicide(s) with the specific weed species or complexes of weeds present, the geographic location, and edaphic and environmental conditions. Many combinations of herbicides result in either additive or synergistic effects on weeds. The activity of soil-acting herbicides depends on such factors as persistence, absorption properties of the soil, soil organic matter, soil types, soil moisture, and cultivation. Herbicide rates may need to be adjusted on the basis of soil texture and type. As well as effects of soil on the performance of herbicides, there are converse effects of the herbicides on soil properties....
