Field margins. The treatment of the strip of ground, or field margin, adjacent to the hedge, has important effects on the establishment of the hedge, and on its developing wildlife value. Avoid routine cultivation of this strip, but either mow it to form a grass sward, or preferably sow it with a mixture of wildflowers and grasses. This type of mix is less vigorous than commercial strains of grass, and will compete less with the hedge for nutrients, and will require less frequent cutting. Its value for invertebrates and other organisms will be much higher than a mown grass sward.... The width of the field margin will depend on the type of crop being grown, and on grants and other commercial factors. 2, record 1, English, - field%20margin

Boron Deficiency. A small quantity of boron is required for normal growth of most plants. For some there is not much leeway between necessary and toxic amounts; other plants require or tolerate large amounts. Deficiency symptoms vary with the crop... Beets, turnips, other root crops. Black Heart, Brown Heart. Roots have dark spots; plants are gradually stunted and dwarfed; leaves are small, variegated, twisted. The interior of the beet or turnip has a dark brown to nearly black water-soaked area, sometimes with a hollow center. Le manque de bore cause la maladie du «cœur brun» ou «pourriture du cœur» de la betterave. Les feuilles du cœur se développent mal, brunissent et meurent. Parfois, de petites feuilles déformées se développent sur les bords de la vacuole. The tomato pinworm(TPW) [Keiferia lycopersicella(Walsingham) ] is primarily a pest in tropical and subtropical areas of the world... Solanaceous crops such as tomato, potato, and eggplant are the preferred host plants of TPW... The tomato pinworm attacks both the leaves and fruits of tomato. Tunnelling or mining by larvae in the leaves is the most common type of injury. Initially, the mine is long and narrow, but it later widens to become blotch-shaped. Older larvae may fold the leaf over itself, or knit 2 leaves together, between which they continue to feed, causing large blotches. In severe infestations, all leaves on a plant are attacked giving the crop a burnt appearance. 4, record 15, English, - tomato%20pinworm

Subirrigation (seepage) systems are based on establishment and maintenance of the high water table just beneath the crop root zone. Due to the capillary action the water migrates upward providing necessary moisture for the crop. For this system to function, the top layer of soil must have high hydraulic conductivity typical for sand or muck. The existence of natural high water table or restrictive layer (clay, rock, etc.) below the root zone is necessary to allow for the buildup and regulation of the irrigation water table throughout the season. Raising the water table in addition to providing for the evapotranspirational demand of the crop, requires large quantities of water which must also be available for seepage irrigation. 6, record 20, English, - subsurface%20irrigation

It should be emphasized that the integration of herbicides into the crop protection program or system needs careful consideration. Main factors to be considered are the rotation sequence, the most common weed or complexes of weeds in the field, and their density and duration. Effort should be made in choosing and matching the particular herbicide(s) with the specific weed species or complexes of weeds present, the geographic location, and edaphic and environmental conditions. Many combinations of herbicides result in either additive or synergistic effects on weeds. The activity of soil-acting herbicides depends on such factors as persistence, absorption properties of the soil, soil organic matter, soil types, soil moisture, and cultivation. Herbicide rates may need to be adjusted on the basis of soil texture and type. As well as effects of soil on the performance of herbicides, there are converse effects of the herbicides on soil properties.... 2, record 24, English, - integrated%20weed%20management
