Black bug... The insect is common in rainfed and irrigated wetland environments during the vegetative stages of the rice crop. It prefers continuously cropped irrigated rice areas and poorly drained fields. Damages are observed more frequently in dry season rice crops and densely planted fields are preferred... One of the cultural control practices to reduce the population of the black bug is to maintain a clean field by removing the weeds and drying the rice field during plowing.... Mechanical control measures include the use of mercury bulbs as light traps for egg-laying adults. 4, record 8, English, - black%20paddy%20bug

The fastest-growing kind of town in the country is one on the outer edge of a metropolitan area which has acquired an employment base. Christopher Leinberger, writing in The Atlantic three years ago, called these communities "urban villages, "and there are also several other names for them, including "edge cities" and "technoburbs. "The communities have cropped up all over the country in Plano, Texas, and Tysons Corner, Virginia; the towns in the valleys surrounding the Los Angeles Basin and along the outer reaches of San Francisco Bay; New York satellites like Stamford, White Plains, and Princeton. 1, record 14, English, - urban%20village

Rice(Oryza sativa L.) production in the Everglades Agricultural Area(EAA) of southern Florida has been expanding steadily since 1978(Coale et al., 1993). In 1992, 9000 ha of rice were planted on organic soils(Histosols) in the EAA, and half of that hectarage was ratoon cropped(Coale et al., 1993). Ratoon cropping, a second harvest of rice from tillers produced from auxiliary buds on remaining stubble following main-crop harvest, allows for more efficient utilization of the long, wet, subtropical growing season of the EAA and, thus, increases rice production per unit area. 1, record 15, English, - ratoon%20rice
