Before the government took charge of building bridges, some people would build their own bridges and decide for themselves who could cross. Barriers were installed at either end. The crossing gateman or gatewoman(the person who worked at the barriers) were tasked with charging people a fee to cross the bridge.

The thermostatic charge is the constituents used in the sensing bulb. A ’cross charge’ indicates the ’bulb charge’ P-T curve crosses the P-T curve of the refrigerant used in the system. As a result, a ’cross charge’ doesn’t use the same refrigerant used in the system the valve is being applied.

The Link to Health program, a gentle fitness program for adultsover 55, began in 1969 as the "Fun and Fitness" program in Western Canada. In 1996, the Canadian Red Cross re-designed it to have a more holistic approach and renamed it Link to Health. It began as "Fun and Fitness" in the Toronto Region in 1991 and has grown and changed over the years to what it is today. Originally offered in nursing homes and senior's centers, Link to Health eventually moved to more accessible locations for seniors who live independently in their communities. It has always been the only program of its kind offered free of charge to participants.
