CROSS-BEDDED [6 records]

Record 1 2011-08-01

English

Subject field(s)
  • Tectonics
DEF

A crossbedding in which the cross-bedded units are bounded by a flat base and flat top forming a tabular body.

OBS

tabular cross-bedding: term used at Natural Resources Canada - Earth Sciences Sector.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Tectonique
CONT

Stratification entrecroisée tabulaire. [...]

Record 2 2009-03-11

English

Subject field(s)
  • Geology
CONT

The core is comprised of two coarsening-upwards sequences separated by a conglomeratic lag. Each coarsening-upward cycle begins with interbedded sandstones and shales and is sharply overlain by low angle to trough cross-bedded sandstones.... The basal portion of each coarsening-upwards cycle is typified by a "laminated-scrambled" texture with interbedded laminated hummocky cross-stratified sandstone beds and burrowed(scrambled) silty shales.

CONT

The coarsening-upward cycle is overlain by a minor fining-upward cycle that includes paleosols.

OBS

coarsening-upward cycle: term used at Natural Resources Canada - Earth Sciences Sector.

PHR

Coarsening and thickening upward cycle.

PHR

Coarsening-upward clastic cycle.

Key term(s)
  • upward coarsening cycle

French

Domaine(s)
  • Géologie
OBS

OBS

cyclothème : Alternance répétée, retour de couches alternantes.

DEF

Glacial sediment of stratified sand and gravel formed by glacial meltwater streams.

CONT

Outwash sediments are commonly characterized by poorly bedded gravels interlayered with well-bedded(and commonly cross-bedded) sands.

OBS

outwash sediment: term used at Natural Resources Canada - Earth Sciences Sector.

French

CONT

In the Foothills, the boundary is placed at the base of a rudist-rich interval(biostrome to erosional cross-bedded grainstones), which is characterized by the occurrence of the large recumbent rudist Ichtyosarcolites. This rudist unit was not identified in Jabal Madar...
