Aboriginal Affairs Secretariat. Cross-Cultural Awareness and Public Information is an important part of the Secretariat mandate. The objective is to increase the level of knowledge of Mi’kmaq and Maliseet cultures and aboriginal issues among public servants and the general public. This is regarded as an important means of improving understanding and fostering better relations with aboriginal people. The main areas of activity in 1999-2000 were the provision of cross-cultural awareness workshops, the development of information kits, and the creation of a Web site.
