CROSS-SECTIONAL IMAGE [4 records]

Record 1 2026-02-18

English

Subject field(s)
  • Tomography
  • Diagnostic Procedures (Medicine)
  • The Eye
CONT

Optical coherence tomography(OCT) is a non-contact imaging technique which generates cross-sectional images of tissue with high resolution. Therefore it is especially valuable in organs, where traditional microscopic tissue diagnosis by means of biopsy is not available—such as the human eye. Since OCT is completely noninvasive, it provides in vivo images without impacting the tissue that is imaged. Fast scanning rates and quick signal processing allows for image visualization in real time and at video rate.... the resolution of OCT is much higher than that of other medical imaging methods like ultrasound or magnetic resonance imaging(MRI).

CONT

OBS

OCT : sigle emprunté à l'anglais; correspond aux désignations «optical coherence tomography» ou «optic coherence tomography».

English

Subject field(s)
  • Medical Instruments and Devices
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging
DEF

[An apparatus that] uses a magnetic field, radiofrequency waves, and computerized image processing to produce cross-sectional images of the anatomy.

OBS

The technique [is] called magnetic resonance imaging rather than nuclear magnetic resonance imaging (NMRI) because of the negative connotations associated with the word nuclear ...

Domaine(s)
  • Instruments et appareillages médicaux
  • Imagerie par résonance magnétique
OBS

Record 3 2006-09-01

English

Subject field(s)
  • Tomography
DEF

A negative image on photographic film made by exposure to multiple cross-sectional X rays(tomography) of a specific section of the body.

CONT

A tomogram is a two-dimensional image representing a slice or section through a three-dimensional object. The term tomogram may be made more specific, as in nephrotomogram (tomogram of the kidney).

French

Domaine(s)
  • Tomographie
CONT

CONT

The reformatted images and direct cross sectional images show evidence of an anterior spondylolisthesis of L5 on S1.

CONT

The computer in CT scanners not only guides the data acquisition, which involves the precise transmission of a thin beam of X-rays through the patient in a specific plane from many angles, but also it reconstructs the CT data obtained and displays it in the form of a cross-sectional image on a television monitor.(In M. J. Lipton-Computerized tomographic scanning of the heart)
