Misalignment of homologous chromosomes during prophase I of meiosis can lead to unequal crossing over. Following an unequal crossing over event one of the resulting chromosomes will get an insertion and the other a deletion... Thus, unequal crossing over is a... mutation mechanism that causes insertions and deletions(in addition to replication slippage). Homologous chromosomes align due to sequence similarity, but misalignment may occur when the chromosomes carry non-homologous repeated sequences. 9, record 3, English, - unequal%20crossing%2Dover

3, record 3, French, - enjambement%20in%C3%A9gal

Homologous recombination is that which we are taught about in introductory biology class. It is the crossing-over process observed during meiosis, though it occurs in bacteria as well. The process involves pairing up of similar DNA sequences, with then one sequence replacing the other, or indeed for meiotic crossing over, with the generation of now two recombinant strands, one for each chromosome homolog, rather than just one. In either case, key is that it is DNA that is highly similar in terms of DNA sequence that is being either replaced or swapped. This allows for a replacement of alleles following horizontal gene transfer, or allele swapping... 2, record 6, English, - homologous%20recombination

As bats are protected in Europe, developers must implement specific mitigation measures that are hierarchically structured to achieve a null net impact. However, very few specific mitigation measures have been undertaken specifically for bats. Bat overpasses(e. g. gantries) are among proposed improvements intended to reduce the impact of roads, but they have rarely been tested. The effectiveness of overpasses in facilitating safe road crossing of bats is critical for justifying the implementation of this mitigation measure. 2, record 15, English, - bat%20overpass

Left turns are notoriously dangerous, as they often involve crossing traffic and turning into oncoming traffic. This can lead to serious accidents, as drivers may not see oncoming vehicles or pedestrians in time to avoid them. The number of possible different gametes produced by channel catfish is astronomical. A favourite manoeuvre in naval battle with fleets sailing in the normal battle disposition of line ahead. If a fleet in this disposition, either by a superiority of speed or by approaching at an angle, can cross ahead of the enemy's line approximately at right angles, it has a considerable tactical advantage in that all its guns can be fired on the broadside while the enemy can reply only with those guns which can fire ahead. It is also a tactical situation which forces an enemy to turn away, and in the resulting loss of speed during the turn and the difficulty of keeping guns bearing on an enemy while turning, the fleet "crossing the T" has a considerable gunnery advantage. 2, record 74, English, - crossing%20the%20T

sun-run-sun : So we now know how to get a single position line from a single sun sight. But we need at least two position lines to get an actual position fix, or position estimate. But there is only one sun, so we have to wait for the sun to move to take another sun sight and get another position line. Ideally, we would take a sun sight in the morning and obtain a position line, and take another sight in the afternoon for a second position line. This will result in two almost perpendicular lines, which will give us the most reliable fix with two lines(the closer the lines are to [being] perpendicular, the less susceptible their crossing point is to error). 3, record 76, English, - sun%2Drun%2Dsun%20method

The actual method used in initial crossing of wheat varieties is conditioned by the fact that wheat is bi-sexual and normally self-pollinating. Before the wheat plant has shed its pollen, the anthers are removed with forceps from the flowers of the plant that is to become the female parent, and a cover is slipped over the emasculated wheat head to exclude foreign pollen. Two or three days later, the cover is taken off and ripe anthers are removed from another wheat plant, selected as the male parent, broken over the stigma of each emasculated flower, and the cover replaced. The fertilized egg cells now develop into grains which usually mature a little more than a month later. 2, record 89, English, - self%2Dpollinating

1, record 89, French, - autof%C3%A9cond%C3%A9e
