CRUDE FAT [6 records]

Record 1 2023-06-27

English

Subject field(s)
  • Animal Feed (Agric.)
CONT

A key point to understanding is that as a beef animal matures, it begins to deposit less muscle and more fat, which is why CP [crude protein] requirement as a percentage of the ration decreases with weight gain... Even though this occurs, finishing rations typically contain at least 12% CP.

CONT

Nitrogen-free extract comprises sugars, starch and a large part of the material classed as hemicellulose. Determined by subtracting the sum of water, ash, protein, fat and crude fibre of feed from 100. Since it is determined by difference, it includes the cumulative errors of the other determinations.

DEF

... the collective name for moisture (water), lipids, protein, carbohydrates and ash.

CONT

Proximates. Soyabean seeds mainly consist of proteins, lipids, carbohydrates and minerals. Proteins and lipids are the two most important fractions commercially, accounting for more than 60 % of the grain weight. Soyabeans can vary in content due to both varietal differences and environmental factors which affect the overall seed composition. The proximate analyses are commonly conducted on animal feed stuffs ...

OBS

Proximate analysis [is] a chemical scheme for evaluating feedstuffs, in which a feed is partitioned into the six fractions : 1) Moisture; 2) Total(Crude) Protein; 3) Fat; 4) Ash; 5) Crude Fiber; and 6) Nitrogen-Free Extract(NFE).

OBS

CONT

Wheat mill run consists of wheat bran, fine particles of wheat bran, wheat shorts, wheat germ, wheat flour and the offal from the tail of the mill. Ground run of the mill screenings are normally added. Wheat mill run is available in the west, but not normally found in other areas of the country where mill run is separated into bran, middlings and red dog. Wheat mill run may have a crude protein level of 14-17 percent; crude fat, 3-4 percent and crude fibre, 8. 5-9. 5 percent.

CONT

Large amounts of unsold bread, doughnuts, cakes and other pastries are available in some areas and are excellent energy sources for ruminant rations. They are usually high in fat and low in crude fibre. Protein levels(on a dry-matter basis) in the range of 10-12% are typical. The low fibre content of the baked material and the baking process itself result in a feed which tends to stimulate ruminal propionate and reduce ruminal acetate production. This is desirable for feedlot livestock being fattened for market.
