As used in ordinary parlance, "cruelty" signifies a disposition to inflict suffering; to delight in or exhibit indifference to the pain or misery of others; mercilessness or hard-heartedness as exhibited in action. If in the marriage relationship, one spouse by his conduct causes wanton, malicious or unnecessary infliction of pain or suffering upon the body, the feelings or emotions of the other, his conduct may well constitute cruelty which will entitle a petitioner to dissolution of the marriage if, in the court's opinion, it amounts to physical or mental cruelty "of such a kind as to render intolerable the continued cohabitation of the spouses.

The Brandon Humane Society has been in operation since 1946 when it was founded by Eleanor Kidd. She originally housed the shelter in her garage on 13th Street, then in an abandoned stable near Empress Bay, and later in an old barn near the riverbank where Eleanor Kidd Gardens are now located. In 1997, the shelter moved to its new premises at 2200 17th Street East. These days, our residents - both cats and dogs - live in a comfortable building with heat and air conditioning, two large exercise yards, an enclosed cat patio, and enough kennels for 20 cats and 13 dogs. When our kennels are full, our dedicated volunteers foster animals in their own homes. Since this is a no-kill shelter, the atmosphere is very positive... our animals are loved and well cared for as they wait to be adopted. We invite you to come visit us and see for yourself! Our Mandate. The Brandon Humane Society’s constitution states that the Society: - has the primary purpose of providing aid and assistance to companion animals, - will accept unwanted companion animals into the shelter when space is available, - will make every effort to find homes for animals in our care, - and will educate the public on companion animal needs, especially the importance of sterilization.

A legal basis, foundation, motive,(valid) reason for introducing a particular law-suit, e. g.-ground for divorce(cruelty desertion)

Divorce reformers called to the eradication of fault ground and adversary proceedings and for attention to the emotional, social and economic aspects of divorce. In response, legislative reform of divorce codes did occur in the late 1960s and 1970s when no-fault statutes began to be adopted and institutionalized through the country.

CONT

To get a divorce, you can use the "fault grounds" or the "marriage breakdown" situation. There are a number of fault ground for divorce. These include, for example, that he has committed adultery, that he is grossly addicted to alcohol or narcotics, that he spent a certain amount of time in prison, on that he is guilty of "cruelty" toward you. There are other "fault grounds’ for divorce, but the ground of cruelty is of particular interest to battered women.
