CRUSHING ROLL [5 records]

Record 1 2016-04-14

English

Subject field(s)
  • Quarrying Tools and Machinery
DEF

A crusher in which size reduction is effected by causing the material to pass between a rotating roller, generally toothed, and a fixed or oscillating plate.

CONT

The single roll crusher consists of a revolving toothed roll and stationary breaker plate supported within a heavy steel frame. Crushing is performed by shearing and compressing material between the roll surface and breaker plate.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Outillage et machinerie (Carrières)
DEF

Concasseur dans lequel la comminution de la matière est provoquée par le passage de cette dernière entre un cylindre rotatif, généralement denté, et une plaque fixe ou oscillante.

  • Milling and Cereal Industries
  • Grain Growing
CONT

Grain crusher. This machine consists of 2 rollers 600mm in diameter and 200mm wide, belt driven from the motor. The gap between them is adjustable. Grain from the hopper is fed between the crushing rolls by a belt driven fluted roll. The feed rate is adjustable. The hopper is 1150mm x 1150mm x 550mm deep and sits on top of the machine.

Subject field(s)
  • Papermaking Machines
DEF

[A] German type of beater to grind, crush and macerate pulp, waste paper or broke.

OBS

[The kollergang] consists two heavy stone rolls(runners) which roll around on the bottom stone(bed stone) of an annular trough or pan. Its refining action is due to the crushing and abrasion of the fibres between the rolls and the bed stone.

Record 4 2000-10-18

English

Subject field(s)
  • Paper Manufacturing Processes
DEF

Roll of paper that has been flattened through dropping or crushing by pressure on the side of the roll; the flat section is seen on the outside of the roll. The core is not in the centre of the roll. This defect is most common on bulky grades as opposed to dense grades.

OBS

A soft roll is more liable to sustain this sort of damage.

Key term(s)
  • out of round roll

Record 5 1994-11-10

English

Subject field(s)
  • Papermaking Machines
CONT

A number of laboratory beating devices are in use around the world for routine testing and experimental work.... The two devices most commonly used in North America are the Valley beater and the PFI mill.... The PFI mill... utilizes a grooved roll eccentric to a smooth trough on which the pulp sample at 10% consistency is distributed. The pressure between roll and trough can be varied by means of applied weights. Both the roll and "bedplate" rotate at high speed, but at different peripheral velocities; this action induces friction, rubbing and crushing of the fibers to produce the beating effect. With normal operation, there is no metal-to-metal contact and little wear on the edges. Consequently, the device rarely needs calibration.

CONT
