The world's first laboratory-grown beef burger was flipped out of a petri dish and into a frying pan on Monday, with food tasters declaring it tasted "close to meat. "Grown in vitro from cattle stem cells at a cost of 250, 000 euros($332, 000), the burger was cooked and eaten in front of television cameras to gain the greatest media coverage for the culmination of a five-year science experiment. Resembling a standard circular-shaped red meat patty, it was created by knitting together 20, 000 strands of laboratory-grown protein, combined with other ingredients normally used in burgers, such as salt, breadcrumbs and egg powder. Red beet juice and saffron were added to give it color. 1, record 3, English, - laboratory%2Dgrown%20beef%20burger
Record number: 3, Textual support number: 1 OBS
The first laboratory-produced meat patty (cultured beef burger) presented in London on August 5, 2013, by Dr. Mark Post, a physiologist from Maastricht University in the Netherlands, was dubbed the "Frankenburger." The professor and his colleagues produced the meat-like substance by cultivating muscle tissue from cow stem cells in fetal serum and other growth-promoting materials (vitamines, amino acids, growth hormones, sugar, etc.). The laboratory-grown meat at this stage of development is prohibitively expensive, but might one day become a substitute for "real" meat. The product needs to be enhanced to improve its texture, taste and appearance. Some scientists predict that cultured meat might be commercially available within a decade. Others say that it will be possible to grow it in one’s own kitchen within 20 years. 13, record 3, English, - laboratory%2Dgrown%20beef%20burger
Record number: 3, Textual support number: 2 OBS
The development of meat substitutes is praised on ethical grounds by animal rights or welfare activists since these products have the potential to greatly reduce the inhumane raising and slaughtering of animals raised for meat. Environmentalists, economists and scientists support these products since they might one day be a cost-effective means of meeting world demands for meat, while greatly reducing greenhouse gas emissions and waste, as well as the use of water, farmland and animal feed that make intensive animal farming unsustainable. On the other hand, natural food advocates have serious doubts concerning ingredients needed to grow and enhance these products, and the long term safety of their consumption; and meat industry proponents argue that the technology still requires stem cell donors (the cells from a single donor cannot replicate indefinitely) and that the product remains a far cry from "real" meat. Only time will tell if these products will, in a perhaps not so distant future, entirely replace, or only supplement, the meat industry. 13, record 3, English, - laboratory%2Dgrown%20beef%20burger
Record number: 3, Textual support number: 3 OBS
cultured beef hamburger: A "hamburger" is a minced beef patty. Terms such as "cultured beef hamburger" could therefore be considered pleonastic. The term "burger" is the shortened form of "hamburger." While burgers are traditionally made of beef, non-beef burgers have become popular, and modifiers such as "veggie," "tuna," "chicken," "nut," and "soya" are used to describe them. Given this relatively new reality, the use of seemingly pleonastic terms such as "cultured beef burger" may be justified. 13, record 3, English, - laboratory%2Dgrown%20beef%20burger
Record number: 3, Textual support number: 4 OBS
The combination of terms such as "hamburger," "cultured," "laboratory," "in vitro" and their short forms to create neologisms designating this product yields an impressive number of synonyms. This will remain the case as long as terminology used to describe this relatively new concept is not well established. 13, record 3, English, - laboratory%2Dgrown%20beef%20burger
Record number: 3, Textual support number: 5 OBS
synthetic hamburger; artificial hamburger: The terms "synthetic meat" and "artificial meat" designate products that imitate meat but that are not necessarily laboratory-grown from animal cells. Hence, the use of qualifiers such as "synthetic" and "artificial" might lead to confuse a cultured hamburger with, for example, a soy-based burger. 13, record 3, English, - laboratory%2Dgrown%20beef%20burger
Record number: 3, Textual support number: 6 OBS
Terms such as "Frankenburger" that do not include the modifier "beef" might very well be used some day to designate similar laboratory-grown products made from animal cells other than beef. 13, record 3, English, - laboratory%2Dgrown%20beef%20burger

Nanomedicine is the application of nanotechnology (the engineering of tiny machines) to the prevention and treatment of disease in the human body. This evolving discipline has the potential to dramatically change medical science. Established and near-future nanomedicine applications include activity monitors, chemotherapy, pacemakers, biochips, OTC [over-the-counter] tests, insulin pumps, nebulizers, needleless injectors, hearing aids, medical flow sensors and blood pressure, glucose monitoring and drug delivery systems. 3, record 8, English, - nanomedicine

The chapter on nanomedicine defines the field of nanomedicine and its objectives, keyed to the "biological existence proof" of the feasibility of nanotechnology. Several thought experiments are employed to help the reader develop an intuitive appreciation of time, space, and mechanics in the microworld, where nanorobots will be operating. The goals of biotechnology-based "molecular medicine" are carefully distinguished from the goals of nanomedicine. The evolution of the concept of nanomedicine and cell repair machines is described as the natural culmination of millennia of medical history. The limits of nanomedicine are presented, although by 20th century standards these limits appear, for the most part, quite tolerable and modest in scope. The applicability of the Hippocratic Oath in the nanomedical era is explored. 4, record 8, English, - nanomedicine

The Oslo Accords, officially called the Declaration of Principles on Interim Self-Government Arrangements or Declaration of Principles(DOP), were finalized in Olso, Norway on August 20, 1993, with Mahmoud Abbas signing for the Palestine Liberation Organization and Shimon Peres signing for the State of Israel. It was witnessed by Warren Christopher for the United States and Andrei Kozyrev for Russia, in the presence of US President Bill Clinton and Israel' s Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin with the PLO's Chairman Yasser Arafat. The Oslo Accords were a culmination of a series of secret and public agreements, dating particularly from the Madrid Conference of 1991 onwards, and negotiated between the Israeli government and the Palestine Liberation Organization(acting as representatives of the Palestinian people) in 1993 as part of a peace process trying to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. 1, record 9, English, - Declaration%20of%20Principles%20on%20Interim%20Self%2DGovernment%20Arrangements

1, record 12, French, - navire%20de%20ligne

The term May Day can refer to any of several traditional secular, Christian, or pagan holidays celebrated either on 1 May itself or another day at the beginning of May and having as a common element the commemoration of the height of spring or the coming of summer. May Day is now more commonly celebrated as a commemoration of the Haymarket Riot of 1886 in Chicago, Illinois, United States which occurred on May 4th but was the culmination of labor unrest which began on May 1. The date consequently became established as an anarchist and socialist holiday during the 20th century, and in these circles it is often known as International Workers’ Day or Labour Day. In this form, May Day has become an International celebration of the social and economic achievements of the working class and labor movement. 1, record 15, English, - May%20Day

The xenon ion propulsion system, or XIPS(pronounced "zips"), is the culmination of nearly four decades of research into the use of electric propulsion as an alternative to conventional chemical propulsion.... the increased efficiency possible with XIPS allows for a reduction in propellant mass of up to 90% for a satellite designed for 12 to 15 years operation. Less propellant results in reduced cost for launch, an increase in payload, or an increase in satellite lifetime, or any combination of the above.... The on-board XIPS system is used primarily for spacecraft stationkeeping. Small thrusts are required to correct for the tug of solar or lunar gravity and to reposition the satellite in its proper orbit and altitude. A satellite's lifetime as well as its launch weight is thus determined by the amount of fuel aboard for its thruster system. While most current satellites use a chemical bipropellant propulsion system, a XIPS-equipped satellite instead uses the impulse generated by a thruster ejecting electrically charged particles at high velocities. XIPS requires only one propellant, xenon, and does its stationkeeping job using a fraction of that required by a chemical propellant system. 3, record 19, English, - xenon%20ion%20propulsion%20system

1, record 19, French, - syst%C3%A8me%20%C3%A0%20propulsion%20ionique%20au%20x%C3%A9non
