A ghost forest is the watery remains of a once verdant woodland. As sea level rises, more and more saltwater encroaches on the land. Along the world’s coasts and estuaries, invading seawater advances and overtakes the fresh water that deciduous trees rely upon for sustenance. The salty water slowly poisons living trees, leaving a haunted ghost forest of dead and dying timber. Still standing in or near brackish water, the decaying trees of a ghost forest resemble giant graying pillars that protrude into the air. 2, record 6, English, - ghost%20forest

In general, closebreeding has been frowned upon by stockmen; but linebreeding(the less intensive form) has been looked upon with favor in many quarters. In a linebreeding program, the degree of relationship is not closer than half-brother and half-sister or matings more distantly related : cousin matings, grandparent to grand offspring, etc. Linebreeding is usually practiced in order to conserve and perpetuate the good traits of a certain outstanding sire or dam. 2, record 31, English, - line%20breeding

The physical/chemical criteria exceedence index provides a summary illustration of water quality, by combining information on frequencies and amplitudes of criteria exceedence for several variables. It is consistent with the way experts analyse and interpret data on water quality. ... The results of this index should be interpreted by comparing different values: a higher value indicates that on average certain contaminants exceed the quality criterion more often and more severely than in the case where the value of the index is lower. The mouth of the basin is blocked by a dam that contains sluice gates and hydroelectric turbogenerators. In operation, water enters the basin through open sluice gates. At high tide the gates are closed. When the tide ebbs sufficiently water is released through the hydroturbines to generate electricity. 1, record 99, English, - tidal%20energy

Robert-Bourassa is a hydroelectric generating station on the La Grande River that is part of Hydro-Québec' s James Bay Project. The Station can generate 5, 616 MW and was commissioned in 1979-1981. Together with the adjacent La Grande-2-A generating station, it uses the reservoir and dam system of the Robert-Bourassa Reservoir to generate electricity. Intially known as La Grande-2, it was renamed after Robert Bourassa who, as Premier of Quebec(1970-1976 and 1985-1994) gave the James Bay Project a vital political impetus. 1, record 100, English, - Robert%2DBourassa%20generating%20station
