Record 2 2012-04-19

English

Subject field(s)
  • Landscape Architecture
CONT

The basic components of the mechanical system for a recirculating fountain are the pump, with a screen protecting it from debris, a line connecting the pump and the fountain, and another line connecting the pump and the display. A main drain, an overflow drain, and control valves should be added to regulate the operation of the system and facilitate its maintenance. The complexity of the system will range from a simple submersible pump in the fountain pool itself to a computerized, multipump, variable mode system requiring a substantial building to contain it.

DEF

English

Subject field(s)
  • Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulics (Physics)
  • Long-Distance Pipelines
  • Transport of Oil and Natural Gas
  • Water Distribution (Water Supply)
CONT

Flow Assurance (FA) has grown as a concern in deepwater developments and long distance hydrocarbon transportation. Main challenges related to flow assurance of remote systems are the risks of production loss due to equipment failure or flow line lockage due to hydrate formation or deposits.

CONT

Flow maintenance. When excessive quantities of paraffin wax, asphaltene or well fine debris restrict flow in a pipeline, the use of conventional pigs can result in total line blockage. If a pipeline exhibits restricted flow, the first step of the remediation process should be the use of gelled fluids to suspend and remove any loose debris from the pipeline.

Record 5 2004-11-02

English

Subject field(s)
  • Extraction Procedures - Various (Mining)
DEF

A method of working coal seams [in which the] seam is removed in one operation by means of a long working face or wall, thus the name.

OBS

The workings advance(or retreat) in a continuous line which may be several hundreds of yards in length. The space from which coal has been removed... is either allowed to collapse(caving) or is completely or partially filled or stowed with stone and debris.

OBS

allwork: Derbyshire coalfield, England. A term formerly used for longwall.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Procédés d'extraction divers (Exploit. minière)
CONT

CONT

Moving slowly but deliberately, they bolted the cooler compressor into the telescope aft compartment, latched a 13-ft. radiator onto handrails along the telescope body, snaked a coolant line through a vent in the telescope's aft bulkhead and worked inside the telescope to connect all the plumbing and wiring without generating debris that might damage one of its delicate sensors.

To force a device called a pig through a pipeline or a flow line for the purpose of cleaning the interior walls of the pipe ...

CONT

Why pig a pipeline?... After the pipeline is built, it will be necessary to run pigs to remove any debris left in the line from new construction;... When the pipeline is in service, it wil be necessary to pig the line to maintain line efficiency and aid in the control of corrosion.

French

CONT

CONT

The flood mark may be used to determine the highest level attained by the water surface during the flood.

OBS

Flood mark: term standardized by ISO.

DEF
