CoA... was discovered as an essential cofactor for the acetylation of sulfanilamide in the liver and of choline in the brain. It has been established that CoA is involved in many biochemical reactions in the body as an "activator" of normally less reactive carbon fragments and a "transferer" of these fragments to different molecules.... After oxidative decarboxylation of pyruvic acid, CoA combines with the two-carbon acetate fragment to form acetyl-CoA or "active" acetate. Coenzyme A is necessary for the activation, synthesis, and degradation of fatty acids. Synthesis of cholesterol and ultimately the production of steroid hormones are also coenzyme A dependent. 6, record 13, English, - coenzyme%20A

The name APUD was coined for amine precursor uptake and decarboxylation; this process is similar to that seen in neurones. APUD cells were named by Pearse to organize his observations on peptide-secreting cells, particularly those from the GI tract. These cells take up precursors of biologically active amines to produce active amine through intracellular decarboxylation with subsequent storage of the amine product in secretory vesicles. APUD cells may have neuroectodermal and endodermal origins but this remains to be proven. 1, record 18, English, - amine%20precursor%20uptake%20and%20decarboxylation

1, record 18, French, - amine%20precursor%20uptake%20and%20decarboxylation
