The Block Shipping system is the method used to plan and co-ordinate the weekly movement of grain from prairie elevators to export terminals and to mills and maltsters within Western Canada. The main objective of the system is to support Canada's grain marketing program by ensuring that the right kinds of grain, in the required quantities, are moved into forward positions as efficiently as possible. All the above should be clearly distinguished from abandonment, which is a unilateral and unwritten act of relinquishment, e.g. of a child, a ship, land, a building, goods, or of a judicial action where no notice of relinquishment is given by the plaintiff (in which connection abandonment does not terminate the action if the possibility subsists of it being revived); and from forfeiture, which is involuntary.
