CONT

Differential Global Positioning System(DGPS) is an enhancement Global Positioning System that uses a network of fixed ground based reference stations to broadcast the difference between the positions indicated by the satellite systems and the known fixed positions. These stations broadcast the difference between the measured satellite pseudoranges and actual(internally computed) pseudoranges, and receiver stations may correct their pseudoranges by the same amount. DGPS was especially useful when GPS was still degraded using "Selective Availability, "because it could improve accuracy to 5-10 metres. The DGPS network has been mainly developed by the Finnish and Swedish maritime administrations in order to improve safety in the archipelago between the two countries.

OBS

differential global positioning system; DGPS : term and abbreviation recommended by the Terminology Committee and standardized by the Validation Committee of the Sustainable Mobility Glossary.

OBS

DEF

DEF

The GPS receiver’s computed position coordinates.

CONT

The use of a combined reference station DGPS [Differential Global Positioning System] position solution is now widely used. This essentially utilizes differential corrections from a number of reference stations, which are combined in either the position, adjustment, or correction domain to give an overall solution. The precision of the position fix is not necessarily improved from the DGPS solution, however, multiple reference station solutions provide a more stable position fix, improved quality control, and reliability measures.

OBS

position fix: term officially approved by the International Space Station official approval Group (ISSOAG).

CONT

CONT

Accurate positioning of the aircraft is essential during image acquisition. Accuracy of ± 1 m is achieved using a DGPS. Downelling irradiance is recorded so as to take into account the space-time variations in the solar altitude and the transparency of the atmosphere that occurs during image acquisition. A gyroscopic sensor records the data needed to correct the geometric distortions of the images. These distortions are due to variations in the attitude of the aircraft(essentially the roll). The ground resolution depends on the altitude from which the images are collected.

Ottawa : Fisheries and Oceans, 1999.(Canadian Technical Report of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences. 2285). Abstract :"The invertebrate and urochordate fauna associated with commercial scallop beds in the lower Bay of Fundy was examined through the bycatch of scallop fishing drags. Bycatch of these species was observed during the 1997 Department of Fisheries and Oceans inshore scallop stock assessments of Scallop Production Areas 4 and 1(off Digby, Nova Scotia), Area 3(below Brier Island and near Yarmouth, Nova Scotia) and Area 6(Grand Manan, New Brunswick). A total of 234 tows were made and 261 species observed including representatives from 13 phyla. Field identification was only possible for 83 taxa, and their distribution was mapped using the tow location data derived from the ship's dGPS. The associated fauna are listed according to phylum. A brief overview of the characteristics of the phyla are also provided. "--Page iv.
