Subject field(s)

CONT

To help us meet our goal, we have hired two part time employees... to grade our eggs. As they grade eggs, they record the temperature of the pack as well as pull out all dirty, cracked, broken, culls and upside down eggs. These culled eggs are labeled with their respective flock number and sent back to the farm via the tech advisor so that our producers can see exactly what we don’t want.

Beef Grading. Canadian beef is graded in two general ways : Tenderness-as indicated by youthfulness of the carcass. Grade A is the most tender, E the least. Fat level-as indicated by surface fat. 1 is the leanest, 4 the fattest. Most cuts of beef used in the food service trade grade A1, A2 or A3. The grade is most commonly indicated by the "Red Brand" ribbon-rolled down the entire beef side. Grade B shows as a blue ribbon brand.

CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Meats and Meat Industries
CONT

Color and texture of lean are usually determined by examining the cross section of the loin muscle after a carcass has been "ribbed down", but some indications may be found in other parts of the carcass. While "dark-cutting beef" has the same eating qualities as that of bright color, it is not so attractive to the consumer and is discounted in the trade. Accordingly, it is not accepted for Grade A when the condition is apparent.

Subject field(s)
  • Earthmoving
DEF

Any operation involving the excavation or construction of earth embankments.

CONT

Earthmoving. This includes excavation and the placement of earth fill. Excavation follows preparation of the site, and is performed when the existing grade must be brought down to a new elevation.

CONT

General excavation consists of the primary operations of earth excavation, rock excavation, backfill, and embankment construction; it also includes the transportation of earth materials, the stabilization of earth banks, and the control of ground water.

OBS

General excavation is the term quite generally applied to the moving of portions of the earth’s crust for construction purposes. Other terms, such as earthmoving, may or may not mean the same thing. Confusion arises from the dual use of the word "earth" to refer, on the one hand, to the sphere on which we live, and on the other hand to that portion of the earth’s crust often termed "dirt," but now more frequently termed "soil."

OBS

Do not translate in French by "terrassements généraux" which is more specific.

OBS

earthwork: term standardized by ISO.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Terrassement
DEF

OBS

terrassement : terme normalisé par l'ISO.

CONT

Monitoring wells should effectively achieve one or more of the following objectives: Provide access to the groundwater system for collection of water samples ... Measure the hydraulic head at a specific location in the groundwater flow system ... Provide access for conducting tests or collecting information necessary to characterize the aquifer materials or their hydrologic properties.

OBS

Figure 6. 1 illustrates a typical open disposal trench at the Barnwell facility. The trench floor is sloped slightly and covered with a layer of sand to facilitate collection of percolating water in a French drain. A number of pipes allow any water that may collect in the French drain to be removed and analyzed. Presently waste, primarily in boxes, drums and cask liners, is stacked neatly in the trench... As the level of the waste reaches the design level, 2 m below grade, a layer of dry soil is added and allowed to filter down between the waste containers. When a trench is filled, it is covered with a cap of at least 0. 6 m of compacted native clay, followed by at least 0. 9 m of soil. The cap is graded to shed water and seeded with grass. The sump in each trench is monitored for at least 5 years and any subsidence in the cap is filled to maintain its water-shedding ability. Monitoring wells at the perimeter of the facility have not detected migration of nuclides after more than 15 years of operation.

Subject field(s)
  • Non-Surgical Treatment
CONT

Ozone therapy is probably the most powerful of the oxygen therapies as ozone is more active than the other two main methods – hyperbaric oxygen and hydrogen peroxide therapy.... Ozone is an activated, trivalent(three atoms) form of oxygen. Oxygen is O2 whereas ozone is O3. Over a period of 20-30 minutes, ozone breaks down into two atoms of regular oxygen-by giving up one atom of singlet oxygen. Medical ozone is made when Medical Grade Oxygen is electrically activated(using an ozone generator) to form ozone. Ozone is germicidal, bactericidal, and fungicidal. Oxygen has these properties too, but less strongly.

CONT

The purpose of the sand is to act as a cushion and allow expansion of the drywell during operation. The steel containment is in contact with sand in those areas where corrosion has been detected. The containment material is ASTM A-212 Grade B carbon steel plate. The licensee stated that the outside surface was protected with a red lead coating from above the drywell down to about the 10-ft. level, which means that the interface between the lead paint and the unprotected steel was in contact with wet sand. Red lead protects steel by providing a stable and impenetrable surface, but the steel is sacrificial with respect to the lead in dilute, acidic water conditions.

Method of irrigation which consists of spilling water at frequent intervals from a grade ditch constructed along the high edge of a sloping field. The water is allowed to flow freely down the slope, irrigating the soils the water moves across. Interceptor ditches are placed at intervals down the slopes to collect the water.
