Also used in genealogical research, mitochondrial DNA [deoxyribonucleic acid] testing looks for profiles from another kind of DNA that is found in mitochondria, small bodies that are found in cells and store their own kind of DNA. Mitochondrial DNA profiles are different, in that they are shared by people with the same mother and are passed down matrilineally, i. e. siblings with the same mother would exhibit the same mitochondrial DNA profile.

DEF

The displacement of a slope following its gradient as forming a succession of undulations or ministeps.

CONT

Slope movements do not need to be large to be destructive-even slope creep or small, early-stage landslide movements can cause substantial structural damage to critical facilities such as dams, resulting in major economic damage and loss of life.

CONT

Active erosion of the rises and slow but constant down slope creep of rock and soil prohibits the formation of a deep soil profile.

OBS

slope creep: Slow slope movement. Typically smaller than 100 mm per year.

OBS

slope creep: term used at Natural Resources Canada - Earth Sciences Sector.

PHR

Slope creep structure.

DEF

A snow profile obtained by excavating a snowpit at a recent slab avalanche release site.

CONT

Fracture line profile [is] a graphical representation of the components of a slab avalanche prepared by excavating a snowpit at the crown face and measuring a variety of snow parameters from the surface down at and including the bed surface(and sometimes extending to the ground). Typical parameters measured include time, date, location, weather, slope angle, aspect, slab dimensions, and include the snowpack stratigraphy parameters plotted at the appropriate depth from the surface in cm : density, hardness, temperature, moisture, fracture depth.

CONT

A fracture line profile showed that the slab failed on facets. [Example approved by the Avalanche Bulletin Terminology Standardization Committee.]

CONT

A fracture line profile revealed that the weakness involved dates back to November. [Example approved by the Avalanche Bulletin Terminology Standardization Committee.]

OBS

Fracture line profile [must be done] ideally within 24 hours after [the avalanche slab] occurrence.

OBS

fracture line profile: term officially approved by the Avalanche Bulletin Terminology Standardization Committee.

CONT

Le profil de cassure linéaire a révélé que les couches fragiles en cause se sont formées en novembre. [Exemple entériné par le Comité d'uniformisation de la terminologie des bulletins d'avalanche.]

We have met many high need babies over the years. Based on this "gallery" we have compiled the following profile of high need babies : intense, hyperactive, draining, feeds frequently, demanding, awakens frequently, unsatisfied, unpredictable, super-sensitive, can’t put baby down, not a self-soother, and separation sensitive. All babies will show some of these features some of the time, and these features are descriptive only.... each of these personality traits has its blessings and its trials. These personality traits should not be judged as "good" or "bad. "They are just differences between babies, but these differences do make high need babies challenging to parent.

CONT

CONT

Soil profile development. The interaction of the five soil-forming factors; time, climate, parent material, topography, and plant and animal life, result in the development of a soil profile. A soil profile is a vertical section of the soil beginning at the surface and extending down into the unconsolidated underlying material to a depth of 60 inches or more.

There are three ways to tell whether gaffs are sharpened properly. Step 1 : Three ways to maintain climbers : 1. 1. Gauging. This method checks the gaff's length, width, and thickness and the profile of its point.... 1. 2. Plane test. This method may be used with the gauge or independently if the gaffs are sharpened by machine. The test is made by using a soft board to tell whether proper sharpness has been reached. Place the climber with the gaff side down and parallel to the board without applying downward pressure above the gaff. Push the climber along the board. If the gaff is properly contoured and sharpened, it will dig into the wood and hold within approximately one inch. If the climber continues to glide along the board for more than one inch, it needs more honing. 1. 3. Pole cutout. After the climbers have been machine sharpened or gauged(and as often as required thereafter), the gaffs may be tested on a pole.

A machine with a revolving mould used in the making of plates and other flatware in conjunction with a profile which is borne down on the bat of clay, pressing it into the mould and cutting away excess material.
