A method of stoping in which the ore is extracted by excavating a series of horizontal(sometimes inclined) timbered slices alongside each other, beginning at the top of the ore body and working progressively downward; the slices are caved by blasting out the timbers, bringing the capping or overburden down upon the bottom of the slices which have been previously covered with a floor or mat of timber to separate the caved material from the solid ore beneath.... As the slices are mined out and caved this mat follows the mining downward, filling the space occupied previously by the ore. 5, record 7, English, - top%20slicing

1, record 7, French, - m%C3%A9thode%20de%20la%20tranche%20horizontale%20unidescendante

A form of timber construction used in regions rich in timber, in which the walls are made of tree-trunks laid horizontally on top of one another and overlapping at the corners where they are slotted together. At its most rudimentary, round boles are put on top of one another, and the joints sealed with moss and mud. At a more sophisticated level, the logs are adzed down so that plane surface rests on plane surface, making the walls more solid and the joints better-fitting. 1, record 11, English, - log%2Dconstruction
