Skin-fermented or skin-contact white wines are white wines that have had extended contact with grape skins. This is unique, because typically, white wines do not spend time on their skins during fermentation. When white wine grapes are pressed, only the juice is fermented. Whereas, when red wines and rosés are fermented and pressed, they spend time on the skins (much less time for rosés than for reds). This extended skin contact is what gives wines their color and tannin. [They are] often known as "orange wines" due to their color ... 8, record 2, English, - orange%20wine

[Un] vin orange est tout simplement un vin blanc qui est vinifié comme un vin rouge. Habituellement, un vin blanc est fait uniquement à partir de la pulpe du raisin sans ses autres parties solides. What is a concurrent sentence? Concurrent sentences are sentences imposed for separate offences which run at the same time. A concurrent sentence begins from the date it is imposed. Where concurrent sentences are imposed at the same time, the total time served by the offender for all the offences is the same as the longest individual sentence imposed. For example, when a court hands down on the same day concurrent sentences of 3 and 5 years, the total time to be served is 5 years. Concurrent sentences include sentences with clear direction from the court that the sentence is to be served "concurrently" and when no direction is given by the court, i. e., sentence is "silent. Example of an original single sentence merged with a concurrent sentence: Suppose that an offender is subject to a 3 year sentence which began on March 1, 2012. Two years later (March 1, 2014) they receive a 3 year sentence to be served concurrently with the first. The two sentences are combined to form a total sentence of 5 years which begins on March 1, 2012 (the start date of the first of the sentences to be served), and ends on February 28, 2017 (the expiration date of the last of the sentences to be served). In this case, the sentences run at the same time. 2, record 9, English, - concurrent%20sentence

Proteases act on proteins and break them down into smaller units. Some proteases are useful in breadmaking because they reduce mixing time and produce a more pliable, extensible dough with good handling properties. Sound flour has very little proteolytic activity. If required, proteases may be added in the form of malted cereal flours or various fungal protease preparations. Proteolytic enzymes require time to achieve their full effect on dough. In the sponge-and-dough process, protease is usually added to the sponge stage to give the enzyme more time to act and eliminate the inhibiting effect of salt which is added at the dough stage. 2, record 55, English, - proteolytic%20enzyme

2, record 55, French, - enzyme%20prot%C3%A9olytique

A sewage pump is an essential component of any waste processing system. While most plumbing systems rely on gravity to bring the waste material down to the sewer level to be processed, occasionally the sewage line is on higher ground than where the waste is originating from. In these cases, a sewage lift pump must be used to counter the effects of gravity and transport the waste matter to its destination.... A sewage lift pump, the primary component of a sewage lift system, is essentially a large tank in which waste water and material collect. Within the tank is a float device which raises and lowers depending on the level of waste in the tank at any given point in time. When the tank fills with waste matter and the float rises to a certain point within it, the sewage lift pump activates. The lift pump essentially forces the waste water and material up through a series of pipes to the sewer or septic lines where it will continue to be processed. As the lift pump moves more material from the tank, the float will begin to lower. Once it reaches a certain point towards the bottom of the tank, it will trigger the lift pump to shut off. All sewage lift pumps also have a built-in alarm that will sound if the float fails to operate correctly. 3, record 58, English, - sewage%20lift%20pump

"Long" is an informal expression used to indicate that a shot went out past the baseline. Important nuance: a "stroke" implies early preparation and a complete follow through. If one were to envision a stroke, one would see a series of sequences, ending with a "shot", i.e. the result of all of the above. Consequently, a "shot" is the result of the "stroke". "Shot" implies a quick, sharp movement because one is focusing on the end result, not the series of sequences leading up to it. A "blow" is rather an imprecise, general term similar in meaning to "shot". Although many would like to maintain these nuances in English, "shot" and "stroke" are often used synonymously. "Blow" is used only rarely. Note, however that although there are two possible equivalents ("coup" and "frappe") in French, neither are semantically identical to the English offerings. The Spanish term "pegada" works well as an equivalent for "shot", although technically the term more specifically refers to the actual hitting action caused by the racket coming in contact with the ball, and not to the end result [cause vs effect]. 2, record 59, English, - shot

Slight nuance between the English terms "rally" and "exchange". In a "rally", the ball must bounce; the term implies an "exchange" of groundstrokes. One can have an "exchange" of any type of shot, for instance, an exchange of volleys, where the ball never touches the ground. Moreover an "exchange" takes place between points; whereas a "rally" can take place between players simply wanting to hit a few balls without keeping score. In Spanish the term "intercambio" is generic. Therefore it means either "rally" or "exchange", depending on the context - "un intercambio de voleas de cerca, un intercambio de golpes de revés". Furthermore, one can use the term "exchange" in English when referring specifically to the length of a rally, i.e. the number of consecutive balls that pass over the net, as in the phrase "At Wimbledon, there were nary an exchange that exceeded 4 shots". 3, record 60, English, - rally

This is a fire of first importance--a fundamental fire used in many other lays and an unexcelled fire in itself. No arrangement of wood will burn so effectively, for none admits so much air to every stick from all directions. And no other fire will burn down to a uniformly spread bed of coals in so short a time. First place the tinder--birch bark, fuzz-stick, etc.--on the ground and build a tiny wigwam fire above it not over six inches high. Now place four base poles, each two inches thick and a foot long, around it, the corners overlapping log-cabin style. Over this lower course, stack up finger-and-thumb-size sticks of hardwood in crisscross fashion bringing the structure up to ten or twelve inches in height. 1, record 75, English, - crisscross%20fire
Record number: 75, Textual support number: 2 OBS
There are actually 3 types of the crisscross fire, but they do not have a specific name. However, the term "log cabin fire" has been used as a synonym for all three. But the term properly designates another type of fire. It is actually the beginning of a crisscross fire that does not have the logs stacked in the crisscross fashion over the tiny wigwam fire, but rather has them stacked around the wigwam fire log cabin style. 3, record 75, English, - crisscross%20fire

Surge-blocks, swabs, or plungers are disc shaped devices made to fit tightly within the well. Their edges are usually fitted with rubber or leather rings to make a tight seal against the well casing. Pipe sections are then attached to the surge-block to lower it into the well, above the well screen, and about 15 feet below the water level. The assembly is then repeatedly lifted up and down. The up and down action of the surge-block creates suction and compression strokes that force water in and out of the well through the screened interval, gravel pack, and aquifer. It works like a plunger in the way that it removes small obstructions and sediments from the well. The surge-block is slowly lowered each time resistance begins to decrease. 2, record 80, English, - surge%20block

With the absence of closed recycling loops in streams, one mechanism for controlling nutrient and energy losses via hydrologic transport is through regulation of outflow losses by stream biota. Nutrients and energy are released at one point in a stream become available as resources(i. e. stabilized inputs) at points further down the topographic gradient. Thus, resources are successfully "spiraled" down the stream rather than "recycled" in place.... thus, it can be hypothesized that streams are "spiralling" or cascading systems in which the retention time and efficiency of resources utilization are maximized through control by specialized functional groups down the stream continuum. 3, record 92, English, - spiral

We have met many high need babies over the years. Based on this "gallery" we have compiled the following profile of high need babies : intense, hyperactive, draining, feeds frequently, demanding, awakens frequently, unsatisfied, unpredictable, super-sensitive, can’t put baby down, not a self-soother, and separation sensitive. All babies will show some of these features some of the time, and these features are descriptive only.... each of these personality traits has its blessings and its trials. These personality traits should not be judged as "good" or "bad. "They are just differences between babies, but these differences do make high need babies challenging to parent. 1, record 96, English, - high%2Dneed%20baby

A vacuum-splint provides a quick form-fitting limb and/or spine immobilization during rescue and transportation to medical facilities.... When the valve is open, internal pressure is equal to atmospheric pressure allowing the device to be wrapped around the body part to be immobilized. Next, a hand vacuum pump is attached to the valve and a vacuum is created. This brings the walls of the device down on polystyrene beads internally which compress and form fit to whatever it is initially wrapped around. At the same time it becomes extremely rigid and can no longer be manipulated until the valve is open again allowing internal pressure to return allowing removal of the device. 1, record 98, English, - vacuum%20splint

After a time, great differences in wealth and economic interests began to develop among the members of the guild itself. Artisans were inclined to make far less money than the merchants who lived by trade. The merchants were interested in using their monopoly for importing goods and selling them within the town to keep prices high. This annoyed the artisans who did not share in the high profits. Gradually the structure of the "one" guild broke down as more and more artisans broke away from the town guild and formed their own separate corporations. 1, record 99, English, - town%20guild

Two types of long-burning flash lamps, the FF-33 and the FF-33B, are made by Sylvania. While these are primarily intended as light sources for high-speed motion picture cameras, they can also be used for painting with light, by using a simple and easily learned technique. [The long-burning flash lamp's] light output lasts about 1. 75 seconds down to half peak, but there is useful light output for a somewhat longer time; total burning time is about 2 1/2 seconds. 1, record 100, English, - long%2Dburning%20flash%20lamp
