Exercise Advice : Place a barbell under your chin, resting it securely across the tops of your shoulders. Hold the barbell in place with your hands with elbows elevated so that [they] are parallel to the floor. Your feet should be just beyond shoulder width apart. Begin this exercise by squatting as though you are going to sit down in a chair. Squat to a point to where your thighs become parallel to the floor and then return to the start position. It is very important that you keep your back as straight as possible throughout this movement(one way to help do this is to focus your eyes on a spot high on the wall in front of you throughout the entire exercise). 1, record 5, English, - front%20barbell%20squat

The dribble belts are rough surface rubber belts set at an incline and rolling uphill(on the top surface).... We used a total of 5 dribble belts which are fed in series to result in a cumulative cleaning/sorting process. The first belt receives the "strippage" from the primary conveyor belt under the stripping section. The [hop] cones roll "downhill", while the leaves and less round debris such as branches stick to the rough surface and are drawn uphill along with some of the cones that don’t roll down the first dribble belt. Whatever hasn’t rolled down the first belt is delivered to the second where another round of separation takes place. This continues over 5 belts with the "trash" being deposited over the top of the last dribble belt onto a trash conveyor while the cones that come off the bottom of each dribble belt are deposited onto a primary hop conveyor. 2, record 6, English, - dribble%20belt

Composting is a natural biological process, carried out under controlled conditions, which converts organic material into a stable humus-like product called compost. During the composting process, various microorganisms, including bacteria and fungi, break down organic material into simpler substances. Composting is an aerobic process, meaning that the microorganisms require oxygen to do their work. 2, record 13, English, - composting

The body weight squat is perhaps the best lower body exercise a person can do. It basically works all the major muscle groups of the thighs, glutes and hamstrings.... Position your feet slightly wider then hip-width apart with your toes slightly turned out. Hold your hands out in front of you at shoulder height. This will counterbalance your weight and help you keep your balance. Slowly and under control, bend your knees and lower yourself down as far as you can without lifting your heels off the floor and then, after a brief pause at the bottom, push your weight back up until you are back at the starting position. 1, record 14, English, - body%20weight%20squat

When hard braking is applied for slowing down or stopping after an aborted takeoff or emergency stop situation, the tire is locked up and can’t rotate, causing rapid heat buildup. When the tire begins to smoke, rubber debris build up under the tire. As the skid continues, more and more debris cause a barrier to form against the water, preventing it from escaping past the tire. A seal has now been created... heating the water under the tire to a point where steam exists. The steam is strong enough to support the tire and prevent runway contact.

Stand with feet slightly wider than hip width apart and toes pointing out slightly. Squat down and grasp bar with a closed, pronated grip.... First pull phase : lift bar from floor by forcefully extending hips and knees.... Keep elbows fully extended(straight), head in a neutral position and shoulders over the bar. As bar raises, keep it as close to shins as possible. Transition(scoop) phase : as bar passes knees, thrust hips forward and slightly re-flex knees to avoid locking them.... Second pull phase : Forcefully and quickly extend hips and knees and plantar-flex ankles(stand on toes). Keep bar as close to body as possible.... Keep shoulders over bar and elbows extended(arms straight) as long as possible. When lower body joints reach full extension, rapidly shrug the shoulders upward, but do not let elbows flex yet. As shoulders reach their highest elevation, flex elbows to begin pulling body under bar. Continue to pull arms as high and as long as possible.... feet may lose contact with floor. Catch phase : after lower body has fully extended and bar reaches near maximal height, pull body under bar and rotate arms around and under bar. Simultaneously, hips and knees flex into a quarter squat position. Once arms are under bar, lift elbows to position the upper arms parallel to floor. Rack the bar across front of clavicles(collar bones) and anterior deltoids(front shoulder muscles).... Stand up by extending hips and knees to a fully erect position. Downward movement phase : lower bar by gradually reducing muscular tension of arms to allow a controlled descent of the bar to the thighs.... Thermoperiod refers to daily temperature change. Plants grow best when daytime temperature is about 10 to 15 degrees higher than nighttime temperature. Under these conditions, plants photosynthesize(build up) and respire(break down) during optimum daytime temperatures and then curtail respiration at night. However, not all plants grow best under the same range between nighttime and daytime temperatures. For example, snapdragons grow best at nighttime temperatures of 55°F; poinsettias, at 62°F. 2, record 47, English, - thermoperiod

Temperature and pressure are important factors in determining the new minerals that form in a metamorphic rock. Different minerals form under different prssure and temperature conditions. As pressures and temperatures change, a mineral reaches the edge of its stability field and breaks down to form new minerals that are stable in the new pressure-temperature field. Higher-temperature minerals tend to be less dense than lower-temperature minerals. The higher temperatures also speed up the chemical reactions that take place during metamorphism. 2, record 50, English, - P%2DT%20field

The rotary dryer, sometimes known as a rotary kiln, is a type of industrial dryer employed to reduce or minimize the moisture content of the material it is handling by bringing it into direct contact with heated gas. The dryer is made up of a large, rotating cylindrical tube, usually supported by concrete columns or steel beams. The dryer slopes slightly so that the discharge end is lower than the material feed end in order to convey the material through the dryer under gravity. Material to be dried enters the higher end of the dryer, and as the dryer rotates, the material is lifted up by a series of internal fins lining the inner wall of the dryer. When the material gets high enough to roll back off the fins, it falls back down to the bottom of the dryer, passing through the hot air stream as it falls. 1, record 55, English, - rotary%20kiln

The American Space Agency Nasa... is putting several million dollars into the project under its advanced concepts programme. At the heart of a space elevator would be a cable reaching up as far as 100, 000km from the surface of the Earth. The earthbound end would be tethered to a base station, probably somewhere in the middle of the Pacific ocean. The other end would be attached to an orbiting object in space acting as a counterweight, the momentum of which would keep the cable taut and allow vehicles to climb up and down it. A space elevator would make rockets redundant by granting cheaper access to space. At about a third of the way along the cable-36, 000 km from Earth-objects take a day to complete a full orbit. If the cable's centre of gravity remained at this height, the cable would remain vertical, as satellites placed at this height are geostationary, effectively hovering over the same spot on the ground. To build a space elevator such a geostationary satellite would be placed into orbit carrying the coiled-up cable. One weighted end of the cable would then be dropped back towards Earth, while the other would be unreeled off into space. Mechanical lifters could then climb up the cable from the ground, ferrying up satellites, space probes and eventually tourists. The biggest technical obstacle is finding a material strong but light enough to make the cable; this is where the carbon nanotubes come in. These are microscopically thin tubes of carbon that are as strong as diamonds but flexible enough to turn into fibre. In theory, a nanotube ribbon about one metre wide and as thin as paper could support a space elevator. 2, record 69, English, - space%20elevator

2, record 69, French, - ascenseur%20spatial

A large number of farmers confine their sows to individual farrowing crates... from just before the birth of their litters until the young pigs are 3-5 days old.... The more traditional farrowing pen... can be adapted to form a farrowing crate by swinging [a] gate from position A [along the wall of the pen] to B [across the pen]. The sow is then confined between this gate and the creep for 2-3 days at farrowing, after which the gate is returned to position A. The young pigs can escape under the rails into the creep section if their mother lies down while she is in this improvised farrowing crate. There may also be some merit in providing farrowing rails 9 in. from the floor and wall, especially where a farrowing crate is not used. These prevent the sow from crushing the pigs against the wall when she lies down. 2, record 70, English, - farrowing%20pen

The International Whaling Commission(IWC) was set up under the International Convention for the Regulation of Whaling which was signed in Washington DC on 2 December 1946. The purpose of the Convention is to provide for the proper conservation of whale stocks and thus make possible the orderly development of the whaling industry. The main duty of IWC is to keep under review and revise as necessary the measures laid down in the Schedule to the Convention which govern the conduct of whaling throughout the world. These measures, among other things, provide for the complete protection of certain species designate specified areas as whale sanctuaries; set limits on the numbers and size of whales which may be taken; prescribe open and closed seasons and areas for whaling; and prohibit the capture of suckling calves and female whales accompanied by calves. The compilation of catch reports and other statistical and biological records is also required. 2, record 82, English, - International%20Whaling%20Commission

Drip Irrigation.... Water is delivered in small quantities under low pressure directly to... the root zone of the plants. You’ll need 1/2 inch polyethylene header pipe, and a roll of thin tape-like porous tubing. The header pipe connects to a garden hose and routes water through the garden. The pipe is placed either down the center or along one end of the garden. Small puncture holes are then made with a screwdriver into the header pipe at intervals corresponding to garden row. Eight-to ten-inch pieces of rubber connecting hose are then inserted into these holes. The other end of the connecting hose attaches to a length of porous tape. This tape is rolled out along each vegetable bed and cut to the same length as the row. Then end of the tape is then crimped to prevent water loss when the system is in use. Porous irrigation tape is best placed about three to four inches away from the base of the plants. 1, record 85, English, - porous%20irrigation%20tape

An unusual car, invented by Renault, the first to be designed with virtual reality CAD. It has four-wheel drive and rises above rocky surfaces. It lowers and rises its nose when going up and down hills. When it comes to a river, it turns amphibious : two hydrojets power it along by blasting water under its body. There is room for two passengers and a driver, who sit inside a glass bubble operating electronic, aircraft-type controls. It doesn’t have windscreen wipers-water molecules are disintegrated on the screen's surface by ultrasonic sensors. 1, record 96, English, - Racoon

Sandstone-uranium-vanadium-base metal deposits.-These deposits are found in terrestrial sediments, frequently fluviatile, which were generally laid down under arid conditions. As a result, the host rocks are often red in colour and for this reason copper deposits of this type are commonly referred to as "red bed coppers. " 3, record 97, English, - red%20bed%20copper
